When I've simply had enough with working with all the leftovers and bits and never want to see them again, I get rid of them! I sort by fiber content and weight and pack them all into bags -- one for worsted wool, one fingering wool, one blended sport, etc -- and put all those bags into one very large bag. Then I put it in the trunk of my car, and the next time I am in the neighborhood I drop it off at the local senior citizens center. The seniors use all of it for all sorts of multi-color sweaters, afghans, hats, scarves, mittens, and all sorts of projects, most of which they then give away to the needy or sell at the annual bazaar. The first time I dropped off a large bag of yarns they were intent about knowing what I wanted them to do with it -- sell the items, keep them, give them away, etc., i.e, were they any restrictions? I told them to have fun and do whatever they liked. A few months later I got an invitation to the annual bazaar, and was delighted to see so many yarns I recognized being used in such fun, creative ways. However, they also had a stack of photos of all the hats and scarves and mittens they had made for needy children. And I learned so much about color!
