Alright everyone...please help me make something for my brother-in-law who is stationed in Afghanistan. He says that he'd like a cover for his sight while it's not in use. A picture of it is here:

Probably a simple bag shape large enough to cover the whole thing (don't worry about the shape) with ties long enough to tie underneath. I'm willing to bet it's more for keeping the lens clean than anything else.
You could add a small pocket, closed with velcro for extra batteries.

Right, but I wouldn't knit or crochet for this. Sew it.

I second this. The loops used in making anything knitted or crochet may catch if he has to pull it off in a hurry, especially around the mounts.

Hi, Bonnie! I think I agree with the others', who suggested sewing instead, UNLESS... here's a 'thought'... it was felted, then loops wouldn't BE a problem! JM2C Noreen
I asked him if this was a cover for use while he's out and he said that it's only for when it's in his tent so he doesn't have to worry about it getting as dusty. I was thinking that if I did crochet it that I could sew a lining in it. I really want to try to crochet it since it's been an on going joke between us. He's asked for a motorcycle cover, some armor and other things so I wanted to see if I could actually do this. LOL
Thanks for the ideas and I'll see what I end up with :-)
Bonnie
Hi Bonnie: I think if you do knit or crochet a cover for the sight, you should line it with a tightly woven cloth. The dust there is very, very fine and infiltrates everything. Let us know what you decide to do! Marie and the cats (A Marine mom)
I sell motorcycle covers if you are interested for very cheap and they are good material. Check it out at empirecovers.com or email me at snipped-for-privacy@empirecovers.com
