That sounds great, Mirjam! I'd love to see a picture of it. Very creative use of an old sweater. Wish we could find old wool sweaters around here! We just don't have the climate for them.

I have been doing that for several years now, I'm pretty sure I have posted on here about it on more than one occasion. At least three years ago (before the Storm, everything around here is either before or after Hurricane Katrina) I made felted vests for dd and dgd, solid color wool with flowers cut from various bright shades and stitched on; and then simple handbags for dd and dil a year later, plus felt slippers for ds and dsil. About two years ago I made nicer handbags, fully lined and with pockets, as birthday gifts for two of my women friends.

Lisa, I found a lot of wool sweaters at church rummage sales, bought them up in the last hour of the sale when they were "leftovers" and everyone else had had a chance to get them as new.

Hi Mirjam I don't much like felting raw coloured/dyed fleece, don't mind needle felting, but soaping about after I've just cleaned up .. no thanks, however, the bag I made, I spun up some merino tops I had left over from needle felting, mauves and burgundy colours knitted a large oblong, in fairisle, then threw it in the washing machine, cut out a shape at the top for the flap, kumihimo'd a band with the rest of the yarn I'd spun, (felted that a bit too) then found some lining and folded the bag in three put in the lining after making a little pocket for a mirror in it, machine stitched it all up...

Hi Mirjam, lots of my fellow spinners have used old sweaters, they do come up pretty.. I am bit like you with not wasting anything.. I went to my local thrift/charity shop once and took away all their old un saleable Tshirts that were out of shape and no good for re-selling, along with the ones I had at home, I cut the neck and arms off then cut them all into strips and put a rug warp on my floor loom and wove them all in, made a pretty rug..lol They were in colours of blues and whites..It took alot of Tshirt strips to cover the warp...but it stopped them going to landfill.

Hi Mirjam, I did this on a four harness loom, lifting sequence, 1+2 and 3+4 packing the widely cut and rolled Tshirts in, so that the cotton warp was completely covered the warp was sett at 4dpi. then I braided the ends afterwards so that they looked like a chain stitch top and bottom, after the rug was taken from the loom.
