OT "A banana a day keeps the doctor away?"!!! (fwd)

The WOW, amazing BANANA!!!

After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again!

Bananas Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

Thanks for posting this, Mirjam. I was just debating what I could snack on and after reading this decided that it was going to be a banana. LOL

Excellent report, Mirjam, thank you for sharing! :o) I love bananas, but unfortunately I can only eat them very early in the morning (and I'm not a breakfast person) because they cause bad indigestion and heartburn in me. I do try to eat a banana at least once every couple of weeks, but it has to be well before noon. :o)

AH ! Mirjam I always knew bananas were *the* perfect fruit !!! Of course where I live bananas are just a must - the pet name for us Queenslanders is "banana benders" because the southern states figure we spend all our time sitting in the sunshine bending bananas into shape !!!

I have always know they are full of the B vitamins and potassium and I can add one other thing they are good for and that is the "restless leg syndrome" - where ones legs tend to jump all night causing sleeplessness, and in the day a nuisance as one cannot sit still for long.

Keep eating lots of bananas - our state needs the export dollars **!!! God bless Gwen

Hi Mirjam,

The majority of people on dialysis treatments are also dealing with high blood pressure... at the same time, because of the high potassium content of bananas, such patients are warned to be very careful about foods containing high levels of potassium. For many such patients, they no longer have any kidney function to get rid of excess potassium, too much of which can cause a heart attack.

Consult your renal dietician if you're on dialysis.

One of my nephews played basketball when he was in high school and he always ate bananas before a game.

Awesome contribution but if you love bananas and you double over in pain after eating them, is there a good way to ingest them into your system?

Why having the trouble consulting the British Encyclopaedia when you can simply consult Mirjam?? Hmm? Thank you Mirjam, very useful and another thing I learned today. I know I'll never look at a banana the same way. Unfortunately I can't have them on an empty stomach, they cause me heartburn. I knew they were "good for the brain" and as a quick snack but not the rest. You are a horn of plenty of information :-) Sofia D

I love bananas, my Mum had in her garden (Algarve-South of Portugal) in the shadow of a very big hévea (rubber plant) a banana plant and it already had a bunch of small bananas that I was lucky enough to try and they were sweet and delicious. As for them being grasses I already knew too. Gosh, what big grasses they are :-) Sofia D

Hi Mirjam,

I'll have to stick with an apple a day as bananas do not agree with me at all, plus they have too many carbs. and raise my sugar sky high. Also DH can't have them as it puts too much potassium in his system and makes his leg pains ten times worse. They are a wonderful fruit, but one that I can't have.

Hugs,

Your twin,

Nora
