OT: decision re: the DPN saga

I decided that I shall keep the straight bamboo's my mother sent me. I don't think she maliciously sent me the wrong ones, I think she was truly trying to be nice. As many have pointed out, she won't be around forever, and while our relationship IS dysfunctional (hey, my family put the FUN in dysFUNctional!), she's my only mother, and I'd hate to regret not having them 'later'. Thanks everyone, for your input, both on and offlist. I'm not exactly jealous of those of you who have/had wonderful mom's, I guess I'm more in awe. I guess, also, two good things came from her:

  1. my love of knitting and crocheting
  2. What kind of 'mom' I did NOT want to be! Hugs, Noreen

Hi Noreen

Good decision, I think. My mom died when I was 18, the week before I started university, after a year in hospital and a year or more before that housebound and/or bedridden. I don't have many of her 'physical' things left; some family turmoil saw them 'lost' somehow; but I do have a very special ring and her favourite suit jacket. Even though I said to keep your needles around for a bit and then ebay them, if it were me I'd probably keep them around, perhaps stashed away somewhere, just to have something from her.

Hey, come look at my bedside table; two teddy bears that my mom picked out especially for me when I was 7 and 16 are sitting there...what other mom in her 30s has 'no-touching allowed' toys in her room? :) A set of needles is nothing! :)

Dear Noreen i haven`t answered before , because i was thinking about it ,,,, AS much as some of us are angry with our mothers , doing waht ever they want to do ,,, while not accepting our side . [ i am still angry at some things and mine has been dead for 15years ]. I laways tried to hope mine meant well ,,,, Now if you miss one Dp ,,, either you use an old dp with same size ,,, one metal woith the 4 bamboo will do fine ,,,, or you order another pair ,,, i like havinng dp in several groups .... When knitting the sleeves i use 2 groups ,,,,, Keep it Noreen ,,, maybe in years to come your New granddaughter will learn to knit and than she can Have those Needles that came from Great Grandma ,,,,,, mirjam

Thanks for that Mirjam. That's just what I have been wondering, if the anger goes away.

I'm not *always* angry, but I too wondered if it dissapates, and Mirjam's words cleared it up for me, too! Noreen
