OT: freezing cold BRRRR!

I woke up to a freezing -1 degrees and a wind chill of 25 below 0. Not being able to get around very good I am staying in, I don't like that. It is going to stay at and below the frost burn danger level for the next 7 to 10 days. I am about ready to join my Sister down in Tennessee. It will get to -10F tonight with a wind chill of 30 or more below zero.

My daughter "Tammy" called us from Orlando today telling how nice it is at the pool.

Hi Dennis Welcome to my world! This whole coming week is set to be like the Arctic. Last night we had -39°C (-38F). This is when we plug in our cars as it makes them much easier to start.

Heee, I wish I was in Orlando by the pool (sniff). DH & I are outside cutting & splitting wood for the woodstove. It's -27°C (-17F) right now. Nothing like a blazing fire to improve the mood. (laugh).

Today I have been working on my Flickering Flames socks and scarf. The pattern for the socks is here:

you get used to the pattern, it's easy. (smile) I didn't use the picotedging, I used a regular k1,p1 ribbed cuff.Stay warm! Shelagh

Just out of curiosity, Shelagh, how stretchy is that pattern? I am asking because 60 sts doesn't seem like many. I did one Jaywalker sock with

72 sts, and after trying the thing on, decided to re-do it with 84 sts. I hope that this size fits!

Yuck! Sorry to say that being in the Southern Hemisphere I'm enjoying summer right now. Tomorrow is Waitangi day in NZ (our national day of sorts) so we're all on holiday and everyone will be flocking to the beach.

That said I am currently knitting DH some new winter gloves - best to get them done before he needs them I figure.

I'm hoping also Donna, 30 would be nice now.

I live in norther Illinois. I guess I could live a little further north but, I noticed norther Wisconsin in not much colder.

Hope your week is warm and pleasant.

I sure don't miss that kind of weather. We had some "winter" right after my birthday - a little freezing rain, we were lucky and and only got the southern edge of it. Earlier this week (last week now, I guess) people as close as Waco were having snow, but we only had one cold cloudy day out of that.

Most of the time it's too bleeding hot here, so I don't complain aloud about the cold days. I get to wear my handknit sweaters :D

I'm not sure, but I thought 60 sts (actually it increases to 61) would be too small. I normally cast on 68 sts for socks. I went up to 71 for these socks and think it will work. Your needle size makes a difference too. I'm using 2.25 mm dpns with regular fingering sock yarn.
