Thank you very much Nora. Well it has been a real windy and wet day in UK. Most of my gifts have been of money apart from a gift of a glass guardian angel from my great, great nephew and niece.

My Dh paid for me to go on a computer digital imaging course which started this afternoon. In a short while we will be going out for a meal. Shirley

Happy birthday from me, too, Shirley. Just went to your website and what a lovely garden you have. What part of England are you in?

Also, Mary, whereabouts in Yorkshire? I was born and brought up in County Durham.

I live in Derbyshire, Yorkshire is only a few miles away.

My garden is not so lovely now. No leaves on the Boston Ivy but snowdrops and grape hyacinth are up and the remains of the Christmas rose. Who knows what will appear next year since I just sprinkled many poppy seeds. Shirley

Happy birthday, Shirley! My snowdrops are up too, in Central Illinois, about 4 weeks early!

I'm in Leeds, Yorkshire is a big county (the biggest in England) and Leeds is more than a few miles from Derbyshire :-)

Nor is mine. It's very wet though. but it's mostly vegetables and hens anyway :-)

Leeds is about 40 miles away up the M1 takes us about 1 hour by car. I used to go to Vidal Sassoon's hairdressing salon there. Cannot afford it now I am retired. Shirley

Yes, but forty miles is more than a few :-) I wouldn't consider going to Derbyshire for an evening but it makes a good day out. It can take more than an hour at busy times :-(

I never went, I cut my own hair anyway (yes, it's a mess but I don't have to look at it ) I hate going to town, don't like shopping of any kind except tools, I'm idle. I remember friend going to VS in the 60s or 70s, she paid £30 for her long, straight hair to be cut straight across at the bottom. Nothing else!

It must be nice to retire - I can't because I've never had a career!
