We live in what some folk might call "the country" (a small island off the coast of mainland Orkney) but it's far from silent - waves breaking, wind blowing (howling at times!), seagulls mewing, curlews calling, seals calling, cattle lowing, sheep and goats bleating etc. And I was brought up in the High Peak district of Derbyshire - bleak moorlands with birds calling and streams tinkling over rocks. But I know what you mean Miriam - it's a very special sort of silence; no mechanical sounds, no interference by sounds from radio and/or TV, just the sounds of Mother Nature.

Thank you Bruce i meant of course the Silence of Yom Kipur the atonement day , when All is so quiet , which is an essential part of this special day !!! Living on a mountains that , washes his feet in the mediterenean , i am also aquianted with the sonngs of the sea , the whispers or shoutings of the winds , the Silver laugh of tree branches kissing each other in a breezy day ,,, mirjam

snipped-for-privacy@actcom.co.il. . . I took the day to meditate and contemplate, all was quiet in the house... the rest of the town and county OUTDOORS were buzzing with daily activity, but I kep it quiet in the house. Love, Noreen
