I don't see why not.

I'd test it thoroughly, and consider the particular circumstances of the toddler, especially. Rayon washes nicely. It wrinkles (but knitwear shouldn't have a problem). I've bought rayon clothing that looked wonderful until the first wash, when the extra dye washed out.

Rayon essentially made from wood - like Tencel - and I've heard it's very flammable, just like cotton. For a babe in arms, I think if it's colorfast it's fine. For a toddler, I'd consider whether the parents ever light candles, smoke, have a fireplace, etc. I don't want to panic anybody, but adults who pay attention to what they're doing can take personal responsibillty; toddlers are different.

I am with Katherine, I think it is fine. Fire is always bad in any circumstance. If you dress a child in any manmade fiber, from Nyon, agrylic to Orlon fibers, etc. it would melt when it burns and that is horrible as well. All the same we still dress toddlers in all these fibers. With little ones we do not use candles or matches so they can harm themselves, toddlers should never be left alone with any open flames or fires, just like common sense tells us we do not leave them alone in a car, or unattended at home etc.

I would think that the emphasis is on being careful with fire versus not useing a flammable fiber.

Tencel is also a very strong material as well, it washes well, and is much stronger than the older rayon materials. I love working with it.

Hi Stella,

I agree with Katheirne and Els. With the Knit-o-graf patterns that was what they called for or maybe it was nylon and I made at least one of each of those patterns.
