Sock picture

I might have posted this link before and forgotten I did it - or maybe I'm losing what's left of my mind (giggle). Anyway, for those who haven't seen it, here's a link to my Socka Colori glitter socks:

Hahahahaha about all of us having less and less *working* brain matter!

Shelagh (et al), you'd probably think I'm crazy ... or realize just how crazy I am ... when you hear that I awoke this morning thinking of these socks!!!!!! I just can't imagine that any self-striping yarn would be *that* detailed and so figure you must've done all those color changes and the patterning yourself. Holy cow ... or would that be holy sheep? ... I'm still completely bowled over by that.

I got to thinking 'bout them, though, and put together why my Ma doesn't like to knit. When she was younger, all the rage was argyle socks ... and she wasn't about to bother with that and so decided she didn't like to knit. I'm wondering, though, does anybody make argyle socks anymore? I think these are prettier than the argyle pattern, but I was wondering.

It's self patterning yarn. I just couldn't be bothered with such an intricate pattern for socks if I had to make all the colour changes myself. Also the nice thing with self yarn - no ends to darn in other than the beginning and the end. (big laugh). The yarn looks quite ordinary in the ball, but I was SO pleased at the great patterns that came out of it. Amazingly, the glitter thread doesn't itch either. ;>D

Aren't they just the greatest? It's self patterning yarn, and I just used the regular plain pattern I always use for socks. Use 2.25 mm needles (I use 4, some people use 5) Cast on 68 stitches. K1,P1 for 2 1/4 inches. Knit all around for desired leg length. Divide sts for heel, make Sl 1, K1 heel flap. Do short rows to turn heel, pick up stitches for instep. Decrease on 2 needles until stitch count back to 68 stitches. Knit for desired foot length. Decrease around for toe. Kitchener stitch toe closed. Voila - socks!! ;>) ;>D

Whew! No kidding?!? I never knew that self-striping could be so intricate!

Can I ask what yarn that was? Like maybe it was from Elann.com so that I could actually afford it! LOL

I bought it on sale last summer when I was in Boulder, CO. It's Fortissima Colori Socka Color, shade 9053. It was marked down from $8.95 US to $6.50 a ball. (I needed 2 balls). Try Googling it, you never know what you might find (grin).

I don't know about the argyle socks. I thought they were ugly years ago when they were in style and never knitted one!
