Sunday AM: coffee, rcty, and 'blog-surfing

An extremely late start to my day, as there were some 'things' needing immediate attention first!

Good morning RCTY! (Hearing Robin Williams screeching 'good morning Vietnam', in my head!) I'm raising my large mug of coffee to you all in salute, and waving! Fair news: the PUBLIC part of the 'granddaddy' fair opens *tomorrow*, all exhibitions had to be in place well in advance, by Thursday (!)... and 2 of the catagories have li'l ol' ME as the *only* entrant. Knitting now: working out an extremely complex shawl for my sister, as there's a Wedding in the future (Spring). I have to laugh at my mother... she's SO damned ....errrr. "competative"... when she learned that I was making Nan the previous shawl, she felt she just HAD to make something for Nan too, so a very long scarf is in the making. I'm going to rotfl if my sister 'gives- back' some of what mother gave ME with regards to the last gift I made for her (mom), that she unabashadly complained about and promptly returned! My sister is just the type to 'do-it-back' to mom. Speaking of, our mother does NOT know about the wedding. Nan wants to wait till she see's her again in person, as she's afraid that this news will...."give her the 'big-one'".... Crocheting nowd: edging on a project, a *pet* project, as it were.... doggie blankets for Christy's dog and her friend Terri's dog. Tatting: nothing at the moment, my eyes have been bothering me. BobbinLace: again, zilch. Spinning: waiting for some inspiration.

Now it's time to visit my 'other' friends, via their blogs. I suppose I should post to mine as well, grin!

Hugs, Noreen

Morning back at you, Noreen. Just happened to be passing through before I head out for some exercise on the kayak. Are you sure your sister isn't 'hoping' the wedding news will ...."give her the 'big-one'"....(or at least get her royally P.O.'d? TTFN, Carey in MA (ducking that flying coffee cup...I really am only kidding....)

Thanks Noreen - I bookmarked the site. Hope the weather is good for your fair.

It was hot in New Mexico last week - but I am back home in sunny but not sizzling Washington now. I worked on some socks while I was gone (small travel project) but am back working on a Jo Sharp silkroad tweed sweater for DD. I like working with it and the pattern is quite easy, so it is going along well. I have not put my NYCO together yet - though the knitting is commpleted and am still finishing the last sleeve of David's sweater.

My next project will be a boy's sweater done in White Buffalo. I worked on the charts last night as I am replacing the ones that came with the pattern with some that are special for the organization where it is going to be donated. It will have salmon on the front and the organization's logo on the back.

Today I have a picnic/annual meeting for an organization I am chairing this year - and this will finish off my term. I am happy to have that over as I am planning a busy travel year.

Off to make the coffee. Judy

Carey, there are times we both feel like "Lionel" when his dad used to say... this is the big one, I'm coming home.. (omg, his name escapes me!) LOL Noreen

It was Redd Foxx saying "Elizabeth" referring to his character's late wife.

I'm not blogging (well, I do blog, but its political commentary more than anything. I'm a curmudgeon about local politics). Anyhow.

's a photo of the spinning I've been doing of late. I can cardenough cotton lint in 30 minutes to keep spinning for more than aweek. This is a pic of the book charkha I use to spin very finefibers (cotton, qiviut, cashmere, bunny). I'm currently spinningcotton punis. The spindle in work has on it thread from about 3.5punis. I have room on the spindle for the remaining half puni plusmaybe another small puni. The thread I'm spinning is on average abouthalf the diameter of a typical sewing thread. I intend to make a3-ply thread which will eventually be weft on the loom. Key word is"eventually" ;D

The lavender stuff on the spindle in its storage slot is a bit of silk hankie. Thanks to all the finger pricking of late I haven't been able to keep my hands/fingers smooth enough to handle silk. That's rather unfortunate, as I've already spun the about half the lavender hankie plus two more complementary hankies. I have *almost* enough spun silk now to start a real project, but I want to have the spinning finished first. The intended project for all the silk (and there's bunches, one hankie is a month's worth of spinning, more if you really attenuate each layer and make cobweb thread of it) is a very large garter-stitch shawl knitted on fine needles, probably 2mm or so based on the swatching I've done.

What else. Small boy has started a crochet afghan based on a preemie blanket pattern I found online. Someone gave him a doily-type afghan as a shower present and he just loves the shaping, so I found something similar rather than try to invent a pattern for him. His tension is quite uneven but he's plugging along at it. He's so intent on the handwork that I have to literally take it from him and lead him by the hand to other activities (like eating, bathing, and doing his maintenance school work).

Time for another cappucino!

*sigh* I miss Luby's sweet tea. Splenda just isn't the same, I don't care how much hype they put out claiming otherwise. Simple syrup is the *only* sweetener that belongs anywhere near a vat of freshly-brewed tea! +++++++++++++

I had some REALLY nice sweet tea once in a restaurant in Williamsburg NC when Matthew won a trip there for a weekend. I wish I had a good recipe for it. I know I could play around with it... keep adding sugar, and steeping the tea for different lengths of time, but I likely wouldn't get it just right. And if I did, chances are I'd forget to write it down for future.

I 'forgot' you can't have sugar, Wooly! I make my own, and have always used either Luzianne or loose Nestea from Sams when I can get it. Lipton is bitter. Noreen
