Going blog-surfing and uploading podcasts a little later... in the meantime I'm trying to convnce Don that jewlery and lingerie shopping is in top order for the day, grin! Hugs, Noreen

Not up early here. I helped a friend move yesterday (along with a few other people) and I must admit I'm just getting too old to do that anymore. I'm SO exhausted, and I wanted to get so much done out in the garden today. I'm running out of time to plant seeds, so must finish up this week.

I'm still working on a Clapotis scarf from Fleece Artist Blue Face Leicester, and I love it. I think it's going to be fabulous when it's all blocked and ready to wear (not that I'm rushing into winter - not at all).

Other project is still the felted Stained Glass Bag. I'm on the home stretch with it and will be doing another one in brighter colours when I'm finished this one.

Ken & I will be off to British Columbia for a short fishing vacation next week and we're very much looking forward to that. With gasoline prices the way they are, this may be our last driving vacation. We're paying the equivalent of $4.91/U.S. gallon right now. Gasp!

I hope everyone's having a good weekend. Shelagh

As oil prices reached an all-time high, experts forecast the costof petrol could hit an average of £1.21 per litre within months. . Today we paid £1.19 to fill our tank. There are approx 2 Canadian or American Dollars to each British Pound atthe moment and 1 gallon is equivalent to 4.54 litres. The cost per litrewas is £1.19.

So, £1.21 (cost per litre) x 4.54 (number of litres in a gallon) = £5.49 (cost per gallon in the UK) x 2 (as £1 sterling exchanges to $2 at present) = $10.98 per gallon over here. :-(

Apart from all that, have a lovely holiday. :-)

Shillelagh spun a FINE 'yarn':

Shelagh. . .

The gas and oil prices are nuts everywhere it seems! Just read Bernadette's post about petrol prices in the UK as gasped further! I *do* commisserate regarding the 'move' and 'getting too old for this', as the years creep up it seems the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak! Hugs, Noreen

I had heard recently that to fill a semi (tractor trailor) with diesel in the UK, it was now well over $2000.00 in US dollars!! I believe, if memory serves, the last report I heard about diesel prices HERE were costing our truckers between $800 and $1400 per fill..... it's terrible, it's worldwide, and solutions seem to be non-existant! Shelagh, I know JUST what you mean! And we HAVE to travel for vacation. RIght now, we are just over 1.50 a litre - disgusting! We are driving to Nova Scotia and from there to Niagara Falls this summer. I shudder to think what it will cost!

Higs, Katherine (listening to the rain pelt down and feeling very sorry for the people doing the Relay for Life tonight.)

People's anger is being directed against our government because most of that cost is tax. For many years each successive government has treated the motorist here as the milch cow. When our petrol cost just over

96 pence per litre 61.3 pence of that was tax. See:

is why there are protests about reducing the amount of tax levied onit. The percentage of tax levied at the moment by the government stands atover 69% according to the latest reports. The other problem is that the number of crops now being grown for use asbio-fuels is creating a world shortage of food.
