What the heck

I TRIED to get to the post office today to mail out my Dec 6x6 and the squares for Marissa's comfort afgahn. POURING rain. Nope, not open today (the State also had a holiday today, though I had to work it since it was my weekend on the rotation). I didn't get them out Friday or Saturday like I had planned. They WILL be out tomorrow, I promise.

Today was a postal holiday in the US, so you would have been peeved had you actually gone to the PO.

I figured out it was closed as I was pulling in. At least I didn't have to get out of the car to figure it out... severe thunderstorm warning in January... odd even for the midwest.

Tell me about weird. We didn't have our autumn rainy season (hurricanse notwithstanding - they didn't come to central, north or west Texas), the entire state is tinderbox dry, the "cold front" dropped us from the 80s on Christmas to the low 70s today. It also fanned the wildfires.

At this point the only thing that'll save the aquifer on which my city depends for water is about a month of steady rain...

I saw a lightning flash on my way home from work at 8 pm. Pouring rain in central lower Michigan.

2006 so far in CT - freezing rain, sleet, wind, snow and power outages. Started on Sunday, still going on as I write - it all looks very picturesque, but after a few minutes you're longing for the plows and sunshine :)
