I know she is there to raise money etc etc. and being cynical, she is getting good mileage from it.
So does Lucille !
Yep,
Lucille
Oh, excuse me, the resort on the ocean in Namibia. Are you joking me or what. Have you seen the footage of the results of years of famine and destitute on CNN?
When has anyone here lifted a finger for anyone. Never mind. I don't care, actually.
She was invited to be Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) several years ago, way before Brad Pitt noticed her.
What mileage is she or are they getting from it? They are both sought out movie stars and both are extremely wealthy. What possible reason would anyone go to that dust bowl to get mileage?
Yes, you are cynical. Now go get your box of wine.
As name - it's ok, no better or worse than other names that have drifted in and out of popularity - India, Ima and Tiffany.

Coming from an alcoholic, that's ripe !
I never said it wasn't poor or unhappy. I said it wasn't remote.
What has that to do with anything? I say Namibia is a country, not a village and that makes me heartless? What are you on?
Elizabeth
Nah, the ripe part is the assumption that Sheena would touch anything that came in a box...
Elizabeth
Excuse me, but I'm sober for 22 years. If I am still alcoholic it's news to me. Do you prefer white or red box wine?
Lol ! Not that I have touched anything much since NY's Day when I went on WWs diet, I have been so abstemious it's amazing. The 30 points a week only allow for the very occasional glass.
I have a very nice bottle awaiting the end of the diet, another half size to go yet.
Some of us do and just don't advertise our good deeds.
My cousin, a nurse, has spent the last two years living in Africa as a volunteer, working with AIDS patients. For each year that she is there, she personally needs to provide $35,000+ to pay for her own room and board and the supplies she uses. When she suggested to the head of the program that they could visit more villages if they had a car rather than waiting for a jitney that might run once a week, she was told she needed to provide her own funds for the car. It cost her another US$35,000 (more or less) to buy a junker that she could've gotten here for about $5000. On top of the two years salary she's not earning at the job she gave up in order to follow God's calling to volunteer.
What I've done to help Sandi on her medical mission is none of your business. It's between her, me and God.
But I have more than merely lifted a finger, and for more than one person in the last five years. And didn't do it to great fanfare on RCTN, nor with hissy-fits when people didnt grovel at my feet in appreciation for my efforts.
But I understand that it's hard for people who are self-centered to imagine that anyone would do anything for others without expecting to get their picture in the newspaper and, in fact, behind the scenes with no recognition at all.
Well then, here's your newsflash: you are always an alcoholic. Sober has nothing to do with it. Either you can drink in moderation or you can't. If you can't, you're an alcoholic, even if you never touch another drink for the rest of your life.

Silly, yes Pat ... but it was just a silly little fun discussion till someone made it nasty with her holier than thou attitude. THAT is what is silly - not the throwing around of what the name really means, etc.

And wouldn't she be getting paid to be this Ambassador by the Government? Why in heaven's name would they pick her as an Ambassador other than the fact that she's considered beautiful and married to Stick Pitt ... why wasn't the job offered to me? :-))
Sharon (N.B.)
No that's just downright nasty and rude - her make-up since I've known her - she likes to pass out the snotty remarks but can't take them herself very well. Think her meds should be upped - she's getting worse, if that's possible.

The job wasn't offered to you because you don't have privileged access to the media. Jolie is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, so is not paid by any government and I would be surprised if the UN remunerates her in any way either. The point of her position and of her trip to Namibia is to use the fact that the media follow her to draw attention to the situation of refugees in countries across the world.
