OT: I have a question for you.

I know. Don't mind me. I'm on what my mother would have called a "life is earnest, life is real" kick. Sometimes I get too serious.

Yeah, that IS what they say, isn't it. I am not sober today because I'm alcoholic. I'm sober by choice because after spending almost half my life in AA I realized I'm no longer the person who used to have to drink.

But, you can make declarations if you choose. I don't agree with you.

News Flash! Angelina was doing her work in Africa way before she was asked to be ambassador. She adopted two orphans long before she met Brad Pitt or became an ambassador. I am very happy for anyone who is out there doing what they were born to do, including movie stars. I think it takes good character for a single woman to make a decision to do what she does.

Just the same, they are only people and because of their chosen profession they are constantly attacked by the press. Can you imagine that lifestyle is fun?

SO WHAT? I actually do not pay all that much attention to what she is doing, but I know she's doing it because the press is full of ravenous vipers who never leave them alone.

Nobody FALLS off the wagon. The make a decision to drink. Big difference. And yes, it's one day at a time...and now there are many thousands of days strung together and I have a certain confidence in myself as a result of having experienced the 12 Steps.

She is doing it because she is trying to draw attention to Namibia, not because the press are ravenous vipers.

Angela has been in Africa for a few years now. Brad has been there with her for over a year. She was already there.

Oh brother. Why the hell not? The doctor didn't have to leave, he made a decision. Do you people think human beings just do whatever they are told to do by anyone? People make choices.

Shriley Temple Black has done humanitarian work for decades and was recently awared for it. Was that wrong? Should she have denied the award and stayed in her bathroom with the door closed?

My husband gets awards at work all the time. Should he not attend the awards dinners?

Yes, I agree with this statement, but the mouthing off going on here about her and Brad doing this for their own gain is ridiculous. Geesh, who knew there were so many perfectly humble people in this newsgroup.

The biggest joke of the day is that someone's sister bought a clunker for 5,000 dollars. What a whopping, steaming pile of crap that is.

In the United States alone, there are at least 1,500 priests charged. That's a bit more than "some." Wouldn't you agree?

All I said was that I hoped they would get all the privacy they can muster and wished people would stop calling Brangelina. How was that holier than thou?

Actually, she donates her salary to an orphanage. She was doing volunteer work in Africa way before she was invited to be ambassador. When was the last time you went to Africa and held AIDS babies?

Whenever someone doesn't have an original thought, they use the "up the meds" statement. I think it's supposed to imply I'm on psychotropic medications.

The last movie I watched was Ella Enchanted (which I highly recommend).

I find that the UN, like the Catholic Church, APPEARS to tolerate child sexual abuse by persons in power (priests and soldiers), highly taints their effectiveness on children's issues, especially since these abuses have been ignored for decades (if not centuries). Ditto on the other sex for food and oil for food scandals on the part of the U.N.

Oops - wrong clip - meant to send that to some one else. This is the article

As to the above - We should either pay our dues, but if the decision ismade not to pay them, the US should withdraw from the UN.) Cheryl

There is a long tradition of such ambassadors-- celebrities with a conscience. One of the outstanding earlier ones was Audrey Hepburn. At least these people are using their positions to do something other than demand freebies from designers. Dawne

For heaven's sake, Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes had more privacy with the birth of their baby in Los Angeles than they did. And Brook Shields gave birth in Los Angeles, and some other star gave birth a few days ago.

No matter how noble the cause, they looked for publicity and they got publicity. It seems this was a planned c section and they brought the doctor with them to do it. If they truly wanted privacy I think they could have found it somewhere in the enormous span of the United States.

Some friends of mine are the parents of Darren Aranofsky, a Hollywood writer/producer who is engaged to a very pregnant Rachel Weicz, a Hollywood star. The baby is a boy. When Charlotte remarked that she wanted to have a big, showy party for the Bris,Darren remarked that it would have to be a small, private service at home because of the media. No problem, they just won't have the big catered affair she wanted to make.

Privacy also includes the speculation people love to do. Why people have this need to hate celebrities is something I will never understand. Personally, I prefer I never knew anything about a celebrities life and character. It makes it very hard to suspend disbelief when they are on the silver screen acting.

She wanted to baby to have dual citizenship.

I'm fairly certain if you asked ten people who Rachel Weicz was, about

2 would know. I've seen most of her films and I really like her very much, but I don't want to know anything about her personal life. When you see them, if you do, will you just say; "Hi Darrachael?"

Don't bother with Mr. And Mrs. Smith. It was a steaming pile of crap. More hype than anything else and I felt sorry for them in that huge flop at the box office.
