As someone who has attended both Nationals games that hosted the Stitch N Pitch night, I've got to say it's great fun. Nothing quite like turning around to look behind you in the stands and seeing hundreds of women knitting, quilting, stitching, etc.

Plus this year I'd say my goodie bag was worth around $40. Not bad.

Not really, more commenting on the women attending an event but knitting or stitching while they did so.

Our local AAA baseball team had this event last year and it was fun - more knitters and crocheters than embroiderers, but lots of needles going in the stands!

Never seen it at the pro level.

A hockey mom is calling baseball bloodthirsty? Have I missed something here? I seem to remember a few brawls in professional hockey the likes of which I never noticed at a baseball game, but it's been a while since I was particularly interested in sports.

TNNA - the trade group for knitting & needlework industries sponsors this. It's been going on for a few years, as teams sign on to the program. We did it last year, the Nationals first, and our own Donna got interviewed for the Washington Post. Did it again this year, in the new stadium. It was lots of fun. Pretty cheap good tix, and we got to see a game, and keep hands busy, too. Donna & I of course had the DH's (and her DS) along - with both our spouses being told they had to keep the other company....

Some local sports personalities definitely thought it was bizarre - at least last year. FWIW, I've been knitting at CAPS hockey games for years - as long as I don't poke anyone. I even did a small canvas piece at one game - that was ok. Wouldn't dream of serious stitching, though.

I see now, you were talking about the Coliseum ! I'm old, but not old enough to have attended those games. lol

One of my profs spotted me knitting to calm my nerves before the final, and took note of who laughed when he called me Madame Defarge. Bonus points to those who did.

That depends WHICH game and what the score is. If it's a 25-0 blowout, having your head cut off might be preferable.

The Giants had just started touting theirs before the All Star break, with snide remarks from one broadcaster to the other to "slow down and be careful when you say that" (Stitch N Pitch).

I'm not going so I didn't take note of the date.

One of my brattier students has taken to calling me that. I suppose I deserve bratty students.

It's likely a very apt description, sounds as if I could like your students - don't bother throwing anything I am gone now !

Hey - that's a pretty well read student... I'd keep him/her. I don't know if all of DS's teachers would get that reference.
