Both cinnamon and cassia (caassia is a less expensive very similar tasting spice that is often labled cinnamon) are gluten free. I cannot swear that the box of cinnamon on the shelf at the grocery is gluten free. You can grate or grind sticks, have it done for you at an upscale gourmet shop, or soak them in vodka to make an extract. When I just need a sprinkle, I use a nutmeg grater. When I need spoonsfuls I use a mini grinder, like one of these:

In fact my old Oscar has about had it, and I am thinking of replacing it with the Krups that is second on the list.

Cheaper ground spices are often "stepped on", and most preground spices are stale, so there are advantages to buying whole spices and grinding them yourself in addition to making sure that they haven't been adulterated with wheat or barley products.

Most boxed spices are not gluten-free. It must say so on the box if it's gluten-free. The safest way to get the flavor of cinnamon is with the stick and grate it. Unless you also have Barrett's Esphagus disease...and then none is permitted.

site had some info about gluten and spices.i read it to mean there is no gluten in the spices.they may contain traces of it due to harvesting, packaging, etc.you'd hope that would be on the label but one never knows. another site i ran across with some interesting info on cinnamon.

all the other sites i read(at least 10) about spices this morning said nothing about gluten in the spices themselves. if it is a spice mix there may be fillers added or other things added to keep the mix from clumping etc. the fillers might contain gluten. the fillers would should be on the label too tho. i'd think if you stick to single spices and blend you're own as you fancy you'd not need worry about gluten from those. fwiw, j.
