OT: back from chaos

Hi hi!! Well, we survived the trip to Kings Dominion with only minor issues. I ended up getting a harness for DD but DS said he would rather have a leash attached to his belt buckles...so, he ended up with a red leash . Not sure why we were supposed to meet at the hotel at

1pm, but that's when we got there...couldn't check in until 3pm, so we headed to the park for a bit. While DS and I were on a ride, mother walked off with DD...security ended up being called because we didn't have any clue where to begin looking. After 1.5 hours, we found them again, but then we had to go back to the hotel because Mother was having breathing problems. Not sure if she was dehydrated (most likely) or was freaking out that I actually called security because she walked away with my daughter....of course, the evil side of me would like to think that she thought I was ready to take her on for taking my daughter without letting me know or getting permission, but....

had a lie-down and some food, then back to park for a couple of hours..MUCH more relaxed and had a blast. Back to hotel, nobody got to sleep until close to midnight. DSaturday was supposed to be an entire day at the park. Went in the morning, back to hotel for food and rest, back to park. Around 6pm or so, thomas and I were getting of "the Scrambler". He decided to jump out the front instead of going down the steps. I grabbed him, but apparently was holdin g the side right where the locking pin goes, so when I stepped down, there was a rather loud series of crunches and pops coming from my hand - middle finger stuck in locking pin area . Off to first aid where they splinted it and suggested I might want to go to the ER . Got loaded into car and drove to ER (30 minutes from the time I walked in until the time I was finished!!!). YTurns out that I apparently dislocated it severely, but when I twisted it to get it out, I put it back into place. Nope, not a single bit of broken bone, but a LOT of swelling and bruising all over my finger.

Got back home 12 minutes after the park closed, and it was at that time that Thomas remembered that we were going to go up in the eiffel tower after it started getting dark and cooled down a bit. Had to explain to him that, because we had to go to the hospital, it was too late to go back into the park, so we couldn't go up in the tower. Then he got upset because we told him we were not taking him swimming at 10:12pm. Got the car loaded up (yes, with finger splinted and numb from this cool stuff they shot in it, and supposedly on vicodin, though i didn't get sleepy but rather more keyed up and hungry!), rolled out the roll-away bed, moved rebekah over to it after she finally went to sleep, and slowly settled into bed around midnight. Awakened at 1am by a bunch of screaming teenage males right outside my door....yelling, slamming the trash can, etc. Now, if I had been totally coherent at that time, I would have called the front desk, but nope, I just politely asked them to take it down a few notches or take it somewhere else. Theuy did..for all of 15 minutes, but then they were back .

Ah well, kids were up at 7am, mother finally got up at 840am, I was already up, dressed, last things packed, and drinking a cup of coffee. While she got her stuff packed, I finished lopading the car....we were on the road by 10am and home by noon.

While we had fun (for the most part), I don't think this is something that we should plan on doing every year..at least not until DD is a little bigger....hard to keep telling her that she couldn't go on some rides because she wasn't tall enough).

Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts...off to try abnd make dinner with a busted right hand

Larisa (please forcgive the typos, didn't realize just how much I needed my middle finger for daily things..lol)

Glad you all had a great time! Each year it will get a wee bit easier. That is until they are teens... and then they will want to go.... but NOT with you! LOL We (all parents) learn to take it as it comes! LOL

Hope your finger heals quickly!

Larisa, I am SO Proud of you for having a harness on the little one and a leash on DS even though it did your hand some damage. How I wish everyone would show such sensible judgment. Good for you. We hereby award you 500 points, a gold star and an ice pack. Frozen peas work pretty well. Proud of you. Polly

Thanks polly...the only time they were off was when DS was on a ride with me and DD was in the stroller..of course, I probably should have had one on mother as well so she wouldn;'t just wander with dd and the stroller . I *did* hear a LOT of comments, some of which I responded to, others that got glares, and still others that warranted the, "I'd rather have them leashed then woind up missing oir dead and front page news" comment...the last one worked the best.....didn't start using that until oh, about the 1-00th comment

Larisa, off to have the other hand looked at as soon as DH gets home

DS wore a harness until he was about 3, especially at places like the county fair and the shopping mall. One lady subjected me to a tirade about what a horrible mother I was because I had my son on a leash. I just looked at her and said, "He thinks he is free to run around, I know where he is. What is YOUR problem?" Shut her up quick

Kim (about to send DS to college and remembering the days when he was mostly controllable)
