OT clear elastic

So, I am bringing out the Christmas decorations. Amongst the 'heirlooms' are some holiday dolls I made maybe 15-20 years ago. The elastic in the clothes (mostly sleeves) was the clear type and is completely gone. Not just dead stretch but totally GONE. Anyone know anything about this stuff? Is the clear elastic we buy now the same or tougher I am wondering. At least if I want to fix it I don't have to rip out old elastic but it is really weird. What kind of elastic do you guys that use it like and have good luck with? Taria

Now there's a mystery. Taria, I've used the clear elastic - but years ago and also probably on doll clothes. You can get 10 yds of ¼" for $ 1.50 or

50 yds for $6 at Home-Sew. They say it's chlorine safe and dry cleanable but they don't mention whether it disappears in 15 - 20 years. I buy elastic 'in bulk'. Sometimes it wimps out and I don't know why I'm keeping it. Polly

All of the elastic fibers die after awhile... clear elastic is actually one that tends to hang around longer than some other common elastics.

Because it's doll clothes, I'd probably use clear elastic again because of the bulk factor.

I've only used clear elastic in swim suits and only more recently than you. The swim suit fabric wears out long before the elastic does.
