OT good grief

This group had gotten to looking funny because I was getting some responses but not the original threads. I had been hoping for an update on Irene, wanted to know how Susan's quilt show went and was wondering what we had done with Jeanne. No clue why it worked but I unsubscribed and then subscribed. Now I suppose I'm up to speed - except I had to email Jeanne to see if she needed me to come bail her out of jail or send chicken soup. Jeanne reports that she's having newsgroup troubles too but is not in the hospital or jail. Now that I've done my computer spring cleaning, I hope you are getting ready for spring. The yankee birds have already dropped by and are heading your way. Are your bird houses clean? hummingbird feeders loaded? And don't put out your dryer lint for bird nests; that's a no-no, as are long snips and strings of yarn. Not Val Polly

I'm not Val either, but my humming bird feeders are loaded, the darn things have taken to wintering here!! What's up with that? Glad to hear that Jeanne is not in jail nor the hospital. :-)

Just curious, why can I not put my dryer lint out for birds nests? I've not ever done that, but nosy any way. The only thing I put out is the cleanings from my hairbrush.

It holds the moisture -- which can cause problems for the little birds.....

Put out your thread snippets.... but leave the lint and fluffy yarns (same reason) behind.

I would love to be thinking about hummers... but we had snow flurries again today... UGH!!!

I would also love to see my tulips start to poke through the ground -- then I know that spring really is on its way!

Kate, you're simply going to have to do something about the snow flurries. The bluebirds, hummers and magnificent red-winged black birds are headed your way. Polly

We had snow flurries today with the daffodil in full bloom and flowering trees staring to bloom and all kinds of buds ready to pop open. Crocus in the snow I can kinda handle but daffs in the snow is so wrong.

The awful truth is - our pecan grove is fairly reliable about 'when is it spring?' and those trees are not leafing here yet. I guess with all this Global warming that you'll just have to keep your doors open in case the birds come home and need shelter. Polly

Oh Kate, The fruit trees are in beautiful bloom here and I even spotted a daffodil bloom a couple of days ago. Everything here is just waking up so nice. Come for a visit. I don't feed humming birds but keep blooming stuff around for them. The salvia they love is starting to bloom. Lots of finches and frisky mockingbirds to enjoy. The hawk dines at the feeder too once in awhile although he eats a little differently than the finches.

I'm glad to hear Jeanne is ok. Waving at you from here Jeanne. Jail or hospital no place to be. I have been missing some emails here too. Nightmist ended up on my list of filters and I was missing her posts but I got her back. Thanks to folks that leave the original msg. so we can try to keep up when things go south on the servers. The red-winged blackbirds have shown up -- I heard their call today -- and looked out and there they were... chowing down...

I never see bluebirds (although LOTS of blue jays!) and am eager for the hummers -- but at 20 degrees last night... a little early for them (I'd offer them a quilt -- but not sure how they would carry it off to their nest!).

just popping in as promised to Ms Polly. not in jail or hospital tho i'm wondering if either of those'd be preferable at the moment. cant get any of the ng servers to last long with my isp so i can read/ reply thru outlook express and i hate using google. sorry but this drives me bonkers. if its got any bearing on the world in general, autumn made an earlier than usual showing here with a change of climate starting in early February. we still expect indian summer soon tho. even our nearly 18yo (on the 1st april) cat is sleeping inside some nights now which is a sure sign of a long cold winter. we'll see how it turns out. i'll try to pop in every now and then thru google when in the mood to deal with it. i'm easy to find if needed tho...nzlstar at yahoo dot com. i see we've still got spam going on albeit in the guise of a hybrid 'swap'? somethings never go away they just change jackets strength and healing vibes for those in need. hugz all around, j.

Apart from having newsgroup problems, she's probably also lost on Facebook somewhere :-) I 'bump' into her occasionally... ;-)

No hummers here, but we'll need to clean and empty the winter feeders soon. (Hope so anyway!) Today the edges of the pond were pretty much thawed, revealing a bunch of belly-up goldfish. It froze pretty deep this year. So we had to clear those away :-p

Polly - we still have a good foot or two of snow in the yard (mostly packed down from the 4'-5' we've had! I can't get to the feeders! I have seen a pair of mourning doves recently - and a pair of robins wintered over (what WERE they thinking???!!!). Thankfully some of the shrubs still have a few berries/seeds on them for the birds to eat in the meantime. I'm sooooo tired of the damp deep-freeze. Please send warmer weather up this way along with the birds! (And you folks up north in Canada - do NOT send down any more cold fronts -- all that does is make for more heavy wet white stuff!)

I can't get into my sewing room 'cuz it's full of Christmas boxes/tree that need to be put out in the top of the barn - can't get to that, either! ME-Judy
