OT: Good Thoughts Needed

Headed out to the UM Surgery center... for DS#3's facial pulse-dye laser treatment. This is needed because of the facial tumors he has due to his Tuberous Sclerosis.

The surgery itself should go okay -- it'll be dealing with the patient afterwards that will be the challenge. I'm told it is fairly painful. I will have to apply vaseline to his face every few hours for the first day or two.

and he is NOT a patient ... patient!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Thansk!!!

Best of luck, Kate. I hope the surgery is significantly less painful than projected and that your impatient patient develops some patience. ;)

Get one of those lil pinwheels that we use to play with when we were little---you blew and they spun. Have him Blow on it while you are close to his face...he's distracted and it won't be sooo painful

We're back home. It actually was far less traumatic than the nurse advised me it would be. (She gave me the protocol for CO2 laser -- not Pulse Dye). So while he looks pretty beat up -- his spirits are good and the pain is controlled with medication.

It will take a week to 10 days for the bruising to go away. But the Doc told me the pain shouldn't be any worse than a bad sunburn for the next day or two!

Thanks for your kind thoughts & prayers! They worked again!

PS -- You can see Ry's before and after in my webshots album. I'll post more pictures over the next couple of weeks.

Kate,

You have to post another one when he's all healed up! I bet that treatment is gonna make a BIG difference - congrats to mom and the impatient patient on getting over the first part of the hurdle!

Howdy!

Good for you guys. Good for him! I esp. like the addition of the blue head poof in the "after" pic; matches his gorgeous eyes. I bet you could find some quilting fabric that color... . ;-)

Cheers & best wishes!

Thank you so much, Kate, for taking the time to report back to us. We've been deeply concerned and are grateful to know that things are going well. First chance you get, bring him home some popsicles. When we had to survive painful skin surgery, the popsicles were just silly enough to detract from the stinging and itching and such. Even our great-grandchildren know that popsicles (in any weather) are a good reward for being a patient. Polly

Here they are sent out to you directly. My husband is a trying patient as well. He is very nictotine addicted and any time he has to have hospital services he becomes a crazy person. Last June he was admitted for 7 days!!! I grin and bear it then threaten his life when he gets too miserable. All the while praying he'll be okay.
