We just heard that an interstate highway bridge over the Mississippi River in Minnepolis collapsed about an hour ago, during rush hour. Obviously there are injuries and probably fatalities; however not much is known at the present. There are at least 50+ vehicles involved. Some information at and . Keep those involved in your thoughts and prayers.
My kids both live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. I've checked in with both of them; they and their in-law families are all okay. DD also said they've heard from most of their friends. DD used to drive that route a lot on her way to work and that is the route they take to her in-laws. We cross bridges like that so often without even thinking about anything happening. Of course, if we did think about it, we'd go crazy with worry about possibilities however remote.

Please keep your eyes out for the last name Bostick. Former student lives there now and I have no way of contacting the family. Also Kerr. Thanks. Better yet, if there is a link to local news that would have names I could check things out myself. Appreciate it.
I've just seen the photos on CNN and I can't believe what I'm seeing......what an absolutely horrific tragety.....one of nightmares. So many heartfelt prayers to those who are and will be effected by this. PTL the school bus went straight down in one piece and all the kids are safe. Wendy in Oz
Steve, the Twin Cities Red Cross has a link on their website to a "Safe and Well" list . There is lots of news coverage on the Minneapolis Star site and also the WCCO-TV website . I haven't seen any list of fatalities; right now they are saying they only have 4 confirmed fatalies, based on the 4 sets of remains at the medical examiner's office.
Of course, prayers and good thoughts headed ya'lls way!!! I just tuned in and realized all this ... otherwise you'd have gotten my share earlier! I can't believe this!!!
I'm okay. I live in Rochester and so am about 80 miles from the collapsed bridge. So far I haven't heard that anyone I know was involved. Our kids both live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. They and their in-laws are all okay. Our daughter said last night that they had heard from most of their friends who often are in that area; one friend who lived and worked in the area was unaccounted for; he only had a cell phone and those were pretty much unusable, so they were hopeful that he is okay. She said that the bridge was one that she used to take to work every day; she's moved and changed jobs so isn't traveling it frequently, though it is still the route they used to get to her in-laws'.
They are now saying it is a recovery operation, not a rescue operation, meaning that they don't expect to find any more survivors.
Good Lord! You just don't expect something like that to happen!! I am SO glad that you and yours are safe - and my prayers are still with you. And of course, with everyone else affected.
Even if none of your family or friends were on that bridge you're STILL affected by it. And like I said, my prayers are with you.
And I do hope that your DD's friend is okay - I'm sure he is. He's probably overwhelmed and dealing with the situation as best he can. He and his family are definitely in my prayers, too.
Back on 9/11, my dad was supposed to be in the Pentagon - but he wasn't that day. I tried like heck to call him and see if he was okay but couldn't reach him - he was busy on the phone calling HIS friends to make sure THEY were okay. So take heart, he could be busy trying to find out about people HE knows or is just too overwhelmed by the "It could've been me" thoughts and is just too overwhelmed to respond.
In any case, my prayers and thoughts are with you and yours (and your DD's)!!!
Sending hugs and prayers to all the folks in the area. Have been watching it on the news. Blessings to all the first-responders and the doctors and nurses who happed to be close by and stepped in to help. ME-Judy
