OT: Home again, home again, jiggety-jig! :D

Over eight hours -- that's how long it takes to drive to see DH's mother in their hometown (where we lived before moving here). And that's each way. Ugh. I'm *so* glad to be home again!

I had a nice visit with two old friends, but there just isn't much to do in that little town. I did a little bit of hand piecing (so this isn't completely OT, after all ), but MIL needed us to drive her to various places, so.... Have I mentioned how glad I am to be home? ;) Our QI, Dexter, is also delighted; I think he was afraid we were going to live in the car permanently.

Unfortunately, there are so many messages waiting for me that I'm going to have to mark them all "read" and start fresh. I tried, but it was too daunting a task.

It's good to be back!

Thanks, Ann. :) Yup -- I'm *really* glad. LOL! As for the heat, it's not muggy (you've heard of our famous "dry heat", right?), so it's more bearable. We go from our homes (with AC) to our cars (with AC) to our stores/businesses/etc. (with AC) -- so it's not as bad as it seems to the visitor. :) And we don't shovel snow!

*Usually* it is a dry heat..... the monsoon has arrived in Arizona..... Dew point is about 70° right now. So it is hot and muggy. sigh. but we are getting some rain around. I know that the southern part of the state has been getting some. And the east and north side of Phoenix....we are getting just enough to make mud on the windshields of the cars. And making me feel miserable.....sigh.

And it is far too hot/muggy to think about food..........

Glad you are home safe Sandy. That is my favorite part of a trip.

I also tend to do outside chores in the morning or evening. The cool evenings are what make life in my part of the desert bearable. An inch of snow shuts everything down completely here. Happens once or twice a year. That is plenty! Taria

Welcome Home Sandy! Isn't it nice to be back in your "own" space. I love going away, but there's no place like home. I have a "road trip" coming up with my parents in August, and it's about 600 miles one way. They want to try and make it in one day....... and it's just like a road trip with them when I was a kid...... what music to play, wind the windows down (up), stop and stretch (mom), keep on going (dad), and both of my QI's have to stay home :-( And not only that, we're going to see family that I haven't seen since I was a youngster!!!

Ahhhh monsoon season. I remember that time of year very well. After one of those dust storms and 10 drop rains....it was hard to believe the pool could ever be clean again. However I do remember some torrential downpours that came in under the front door and took every pool towel in the house to sop up the water. Feast or famine. Feenix weather! KJ

None from this end, Pami. Thank heavens Dexter travels well -- he just didn't quite understand that an 8-hour+ car trip in each direction was going to feel so *long*! Of course, he's also 11.5 years old now, so he's a bit more lethargic than a younger pup might be.

Absolutely! I love going away most of the time (though I hadn't really wanted to go this time), but home is the best. :)

Ack! That sounds worse than the one I just finished! :( At least it was with DH -- though he also doesn't like to stop. No kids, no grandkids, just Dexter and us. Whew!

Thanks, Taria! It's my favorite, too. :) I don't have too many outside chores (DH does most of that part), but I like to do my inside chores early for the same reason. It doesn't really cool down much at night here, but at least it's cooler than in the daytime. :) An inch of snow here would shut down everything, too -- it might happen once or twice in a century. ;)

I noticed that, Pati! It was like that in Douglas, too, and as we drove home yesterday. No rain here -- which is bad -- but no humidity, either

-- which is good.

When it's that hot/muggy, salads and outdoor cooking (done by DH!) are all I can contemplate.
