OT: Is it just me..... or

do you have a problem with the relatively new Tide commercial where the daughter is asking Mom about her new green shirt and Mom says something about it not being her style in response. Then we cut away to Mom partying with her girl friends wearing (and staining) said top -- and then burying it in her laundry hamper.

To me -- this is bold, blatant lying by Mom to daughter. I do use Tide - but this commercial makes me mad every time I see it. Then again... I have 0 tolerance for liars (either overt lies or lies by omission).

Have you seen this commercial? What is your take on it?

I haven't seen the commercial. I do think, though, that a lot of commercials are just wrong. For some reason people think that is what we want to see, that anything goes.

David says that so many people see the "truth" as something that is not objective and just whatever they want it to be. And these types of commercials just feed into it.

This one, and others, just annoy the daylites outta me. What a great example they are NOT setting, by encouraging people that lying/deception is okay. And don't even get me started on the half-truths being spouted by the politicians in their campaign ads. But they ALL do this and it makes me want to not vote for any of them.

It annoyed me since they portraying the mom as an irresponsible party girl type- like that's the 'norm'- and then the lie to her daughter on top of it. I don't buy anything brand name if I can find an economical substitute, so Tide isn't in any danger of losing my business. VBG

I use Tide. I hate that tv ad too. It's easy to object. You can go to

and let them know how you feel. How will they know that lying is unacceptable and certainly not appealing or funny unless we give them a piece of our minds? Just a small piece. Polly

as it is not acceptable for the daughter to lie to her mom, how is it acceptable for the mom to lie to her daughter. i reckon you should send this msg to the Tide company. if no one tells them they'll carry on thinking it is perfectly acceptable. i'm surprised they dont have these ads run by a small group of regular folk before they put them on tv just to be sure they got it right. i'm guessing, tho i could be wrong, the ads are written by men/husbands and they thot it was funny. its not funny at all. it is lying and deception, sends the wrong message to the kids. if mom can do it, then so can i. well, no you can not do it and you're now grounded young lady. get to your room and clean it up while you're there. yup, go tell Tide what you think of their crummy ad. i would be we dont have that brand here. j.

I don't like it, either! However, the commercials that I simply will NOT watch are the ones showing abused animals -- I immediately switch the channel, and have gotten really quick with the remote! I support my local animal shelter VERY generously and have two "rescue" animals (a crippled dog born with a bad leg, and a dumped cat), but will NOT watch those commercials and will NOT donate a dime to any organization that produces those commercials.

I'm with you... I'm hoping for a NONE OF THE ABOVE option in the Michigan governor's race. Neither candidate is saying what they will do -- just what the other has done.... and done wrongly!

I HATE IT!!! They wonder why so many people are apathetic when it comes to politics!!!

While I agree wholeheartedly that the commercial advocates lying, and I hate that....

On the flip side, though, honestly, for once I would LOVE to see a MAN in the woman's role on these kinds of commercials.... :)

It sounds like it was pre-spoofed by the one in a Pedro Almodovar movie, which opens with a young man rushing in through the door to strip and shove his dirty clothes into the machine. He is then introduced by his mother in a straight-to-camera shot as the local serial killer, whose career has only been possible thanks to her choice of laundry detergent. The "commercial" ends with her holding up a set of spotless clothes while surrounded by angry policemen frustrated by not having any forensic bloodstains.

Maybe what you saw has been the usual in Spain for years.

I can't stand our main party candidates for governor here in NY either. One is a total nutbunny, the other is a professional politician that will do or say anything for a vote.

I think I am going to vote for the hooker. The madam that was catering to former governor Spitzer is running, and she is the only one of the lot that makes any kind of sense at all.

I really wish that we had a "none of the above" option, and a "no confidence" option would be really really nice too.

Oh me neither! I have the t.v. on to relax and enjoy a little entertainment. A parade of crippled, abused, sad animals is neither!

What about a really cute Ad!

It's for Honda, it has a dog and his master dreaming about what they want to/like to do. The dog is a Ridgeback and we see him tooling along in a ChrisCraft speed boat, he is even wearing a PFD.

It just perks me up!

I love the paint color-chip Sherwin-Williams commercials on HGTV. They are such happy, colorful ads that make me feel good to watch them. Makes me want to visit those worlds. Why can't all companies have cheerful commercials??

I love the commercial where the little piggy cries 'wee, wee, wee' all the way home. Reminds me of the days I spent driving little (and big) kids to this and that. Polly
