OT: Making Utility Curtains

I have found an ideal way to make bathroom curtains and I'm going to share. I was standing in Goodwill looking at (what do you think?) fabric stuff and there were several packages of new, unopened full- sized flat sheets. Two of them were the prefect colors I needed for the boys' bathrooms, and they cost $1 each.

At home, I cut the sheet lengthwise (they both wanted curtains that could be opened in the middle) and then doubled it over to make it thick enough to be opaque. Stitched up the sides like a big sack, cut off the length I needed and hemmed the open bottom together. Then I just made button holes at the top where I wanted. Done.

A tension rod goes in the window reveal, shower curtain hangers go into the curtain button holes, the curtains go on the rod and the job is done. Two bathroom curtains for $2 plus hardware. I can see that this method could work with so many windows. And a little more pizazz would make them pretty and suitable for lots of rooms. It was just so easy I couldn't believe it.

While you are fixing up the bathroom don't forget that a sheet is great for making a outer shower curtain too! BTDT :)

I have sometimes wondered if that is how ruffles on curtains came to be.
