OT - matching stove and fridge

I have a new kitchen of major appliances being delivered today. I think we wore the stores and internet out shopping for them. Home Depot worked out the best for the stuff we chose. No cobalt that I have seen. The one and only unusual color I have found is the Jenn-Air oiled bronze. It is just the most beautiful stuff (to me). Too high end for this little shack we live in but golly if I had an endless amount of money I would have that stuff in a minute. Good luck with your hunt. There are a lot of neato machines out right now.

I was kicking around the idea of the convection/microwave over the stove top. There was a lot of good feedback here but we decided not to go with that because the kitchen electric would have been updated. I was willing to go the extra cost for the machine but I don't want to have to update now. I might be sorry about that later. Good luck with the hunt. Taria

So glad you've reported in, Taria. Warning: After our new stove was installed, there had to be a little adjustment made to the counter beside it for a snug fit. When the new stove was inched out, we discovered that the delivery guys had only half-heartedly plugged the stove in - don't know if it ever would have caused a problem but it surely could have. Though I may have to readjust WHERE the colors are - I'm currently seeing red tile linoleum, cobalt appliances, warm oak cabinets with pale or white knobs, and pale or white walls.

Our doctor's wife decided that she had to have a new appliance color. They 'simply' sent their appliances to an automotive repair shop and painted. Worked great - but, of course, the cooktop is quite another challenge. Polly

When we moved into our new house money was tight, and our avocado DW was only two years old. We had cherry cabinets and almond refrigerator. I bought a can of appliance paint, almond, sanded the avocado to give it some tooth to hold new paint and sprayed away, turned out fine, 20 years later the EX still has the same DW. Yes, he got the house and the mortgage. My son will get the house, sans mortgage, some day.

The auto repair shop is an excellent idea.

I came =3D that close to posting the same reply about an auto painter but, thinking through the baked-on enamel required for the stovetop, thought better and deleted it...

For a while, some appliance companies were making built-ins with interchangeable panels, which made a lot of sense; they only needed to make one version (and slip in the appropriate color panel/s) and if a customer remodeled in a different color scheme, they could keep the appliances and just change the panels. Apparently, it was one of those ideas that was TOO good...

Except, as noted, for the stovetop. There may be another kind of finishing business that c/would do that, but they'd have to do both items or coordinate color-matching with the auto painter. I'm sure it's within the realm of possibility, but it's a tricky/expensive proposition no matter how you look at it. ;-)

Quality would be my first concern for appliances; color is paintable. Refrigerators are very paintable. Check w/ an appliance place that is experienced w/ painting; auto body shops use an entirely different paint & process, often toxic (you don't live w/ your car in the house).

Get the dark/black cooktop, add a cobalt tea kettle, pots, canisters, a lovely cobalt blue bowl on the counter, to accessorize.

I've put down red "brick" vinyl flooring, twice. Not allowed to do that anymore, as we moved w/in 6 months of installation. But I loved it, still do. We get "neutral" appliances; any color accessories go w/ black. ;-D

Cobalt blue walls &/or countertops. Cobalt blue knobs & pulls on the cabinets.

Thanks Polly. Stove and fridge in, up and running. The dishwasher and over stove microwave tomorrow and Friday. This stove does set out just a tad more than the last and since it is such a small kitchen it is very close to the opening dishwasher. Luckily it seems they will 'just' work. Some day I want a real grown up sized kitchen but for today I feel pretty lucky to have such great working machines that are so pretty. Taria

Now I remember, Taria. The reason my stove had to be pulled out after installing was that the plug to the stove and the receptacle forced the stove to set out too much from the wall. Ugly and an invitation for splattered spaghetti sauce to dribble down the back. DH had to install a new stove power receptacle in the wall behind the cabinet beside the stove. We were pretty sick looking at the stove standing out like it was and the solution wasn't really that big a deal. If your DH doesn't 'do' electrical, it's really not a million dollar professional job. Polly

I *love* cobalt blue -- wish it had been available when I bought my KitchenAid mixer years ago. However, white -- the one I have -- isn't bad, since it goes so well with cobalt.

In your kitchen remodel, are you sure the applianeces are where you want to start?

Hi Lady, I've got a cobalt KitchenAid mixer, cobalt Chantal cookware, and a few other cobalt accessories in my kitchen-- but I absolutely *love* my Samsung bottom freezer refrigerator in stainless platinum! Check it out on line. (Now I'm hoping my stove will die so i can get the a new one in the same finish(g)). rusty

Karen, yes - as if I wait until hubby wants to spend the money on the new kitchen, I'll be using an ice cooler and a coleman campstove since my appliances will have died by then. This way, I'll have some of the major expenses taken care of already.

LUV cobalt blue! Got my bits of blue on the cheap, found old Vick's and milk of magnesia bottles on various 'treasure hunt' walks in a long-gone mining town from the early 20th century located here in W. Pennsylvania. I put a glass shelf over my kitchen sink in front of the window and display my cobalt glass there.
