OT: Old Style Olfa Rotary Cutters

I still like the very first Olfa rotary cutter I ever bought over 12 years ago. It was a taxi-cab yellow handle with a black sliding blade protector. Since then they have changed the size and shape of the handles and also the length of the black slider. I've used my 45mm so much that I've worn the hole from a circle to an oval ;o). I'm hoping that some of you may still have one or more of these cutters sitting around that you no longer use that you would be willing to sell to me. Not the blades, just the plastic. Here is a pic of what I'm looking for:

Sorry, Mickie, you'd have to pry my old style Olfa cutters from my cold, stiff, dead fingers. I might leave my assortment of rotary cutters to you in my will??? VBG

I don't like any of these new-fangled, ergonomically shaped, jazzed up cutters, either. And WHY did they screw up the perfect car??? The 1964/5 Mustang convertible!

The picture of your 'old style' cutter is identical to the only cutter I have. Was I supposed to 'upgrade'? :-) Hope you can find someone who can help you Mickie.

Hi Mickie,

The style of Olfa cutter you are after is available in Australia - I have purchased many in the past few months 'older' friends who don't know ebay and how it works.

Also, I visited the Olfa website - have a look here -

Is this what you want?

I know this type of cutter is still available, and although Olfa calls this the "original style" the newer handle is made heftier and the black slider part of the blade protector is much longer than on the original. Those two features make the newer handle more difficult for me to use. The ridge on the slider is exactly under my thumb when I use the cutter, making for a sore thumb very quickly. I've tried moving to different places on the handle to avoid this, but at the expense of control. The heftier handle is just plain harder for me to hold - my hands are very small and my grip is weak and I do best with less bulky tools. I do know Olfa guarantees their cutters for life: "We will send you a replacement of either the parts requested or a knife body (handle) of equal or comparable value." which loosley translates they will send me another of whatever they happen to have at the time, and not an exact replacement. Sometimes change is good, but sometimes it is truly frustrating for those of us who like the old things best ;o) Mickie

There appears to be some available on eBay. At least the picture shown is the old style like yours. You may want to make sure that's what it really looks like, and not just a picture pulled off the net, before bidding.

Now that absolutely was NOT out there on eBay before I posted my request here yesterday, I know, because I looked there first! LOL Thanks for the link, though, and although they are kinda pricey, it's nice to know there are some out there in case all else fails (although the private offers I've received are from very reliable r.c.t.q. people ;o) --- thanks you gals!) hello Mickie -- it's been a long time since we were in contact -- I still love the border exchange I/we/you worked on many years ago.

I have the smaller one that I will send you -- I don't ever use it
