OT: One Week!

My name is Sunny and I haven't had a fabric purchase in 8 days.

(Dang this is hard. I really, really hate self-denial!)

You and me both Sunny.

I am lucky enough to get some relief though as I sometimes have to order for one of my students. I guess you could call that shopping by proxy. Trouble is I normally just browse and fill the GP pack to "share" on shipping costs. But I am holding firm - no shopping for me for a month!

Hang in there! We can cheer each other on.

HI Sunny! < In my best group therapy type voice. Keep up the good work. I'm trying to join you in your efforts. My guild is having an auction Monday night and I'm cleaning out old fabrics and kits that I've had forever and will never make up. Rather than considering myself wasteful....I'm trying to think of it as supporting my guild! I, too, have more fabric than I can ever use up and need to learn how to deny myself. KJ

Come to think of it....I don't think I've purchased any fabric this month. I'll try my bestest to make it until November. KJ

Congratulation Sunny,. Hi, my name is Carole. Like you, I have also resolve to not buy fabric and I haven't for quite some time. To be successful, all you need is a new habit, like embroidery to keep you mind off fabric purchase. Now I only buy things I need for embroidery ;o) - I'm even using fabric from my stash to work with my new hobby. :oD - I have now accomplished two important things in my life - reduction of stash and eliminated fabric purchase. I'm a woman of my word! lol

My name is Linda and I haven't made a fabric purchase for 5 weeks! (Except that I did receive fabric for my birthday last week as a gift, does that count?) I have to go to JAF tomorrow to make a non fabric purchase. I just hope I can get out of the store without falling off the wagon.

Last fabric I bought was ........... hmmmm. June or so, maybe, when I bought clearance fabrics at Wal-Mart for my nieces quilt. I'm enjoying the challenge of making what I want strictly from my stash.

Me too Sharon, I started rooting around under my sewing table and in a couple drawers and found fabric I'd forgotten I bought. My stash isn't too big....I'm on the wagon for economic reasons. But it's really fun to come across "new" fabric that I've had for a long time.

My name is Polly and I don't think I'm really off the wagon. I didn't buy any quilting fabric but I did find the small iron I needed, a cd I'd been wanting and a pattern that had been calling to me. Sunday, there's a quilt show and we really should support the local vendors, shouldn't we? Polly

Seven Days without shopping for fabric... makes one weak!

I haven't bought fabric -- but I bought some thread and some Clover Bias... and some patterns... does that count!

It's been more like 8 weeks for me Sunny and then It was only 4" to finish off a scrappy flannel top.

My birthday gift to me from the 'Thimble Lady' doesn't count right because it wasn't fabric.

Alas, I fell off the wagon today and bought 3.5 yds for a quilt back, but it was 50% off.

but buying for a very specific project that is underway ... really isn't the same as buying it because you like it and maybe someday it will find its way into the perfect yet-to-be-determined project! I think that your purchase shouldn't count... but then again... I am the Queen of the Rationalizers/Procrastinators!

Yeah, what she said!

I went to the Simi Valley Quilt Guild show this morning with DH. They had 200 quilts on display, along with a quilt auction and about 20 vendors. I bought a couple patterns, one Sweet Treat fabric pack to go with the table runner/placemats pattern from the same Pincushon Boutique. I justified that because DH liked the fabric pack. Also bought something for my new Secret Sister.

So, it doesn't count! I mentioned to a couple ladies that I am on a fabric diet this month, next month I will add food diet. They wanted to be sure I am not stopping chocolate. Fortunately I do not eat much chocolate. ;))

This was the first time I went to their show. They are about 35 miles away from me, and I wanted to see what kind of people were in the guild. Show was nicely presented in a gymnasium in the town's recreational center, lots of good natural light and good space between the quilt aisles. Gym floor was covered to protect the basketball floor. No strollers today, allowed only on sunday. The only negative was finding a parking place, since today is "soccer Saturday" for the local families.

While I fully support the mission of saving for a sewing machine, it seems very perverse to encourage anyone NOT to buy fabric! Hope the money comes together quickly so this state of affairs doesn't have to last! Brrr! Roberta in D
