I just got back from passing my UK driving test. I didn't pass 6 weeks ago so this was my 2nd attempt. It is very foggy today and cars were appearing from the mist, since I seemed to be the only driver with headlights! However, I did manage to drive well and didn't get caught out by the hidden 30 sign out near Birkhill which is bent at an angle, nor the hidden 40 sign behind a tree on Perth road, nor the roundabout which is shaped roughly like a triangle, etc. I recognised all the strange roundabouts the instructor took me too and coped well. Only 7 minor faults out of a possible 15 and no major ones. I'm on to the PassPlus course now in order to lower my insurance payments.
Well done Jo! It really makes a difference to be able to drive, even if you don't own a car to start with - I used to borrow my mum's (not an option for you I know). Insurance will also drop as you get older and have had your licence for longer (whether you use it or not!)

BTW I too passed on a foggy day 2nd time around :)
Ah, now, Jo. I could have been such a help to you if I'd only know you were wanting to pass a driver's license test. I took my test the day before our first child was born. Had only gained 45 pounds. That dear sheriff was so relieved to get himself out of the car that he would have gladly given me a pilot's license or his nice gold badge. Anything. What a precious memory. Thank you for reminding me. And, congratulations. Polly
"Michelle C" Woo-hoo Jo! Way to go! Sounds like a rather challenging driving test....
Congratulations Jo! Sounds like it was an obstacle course! You'll have to be shopping for a snappy little hybrid now! It must be very freeing to have that license in your possession!
So that they can catch you speeding and fine you :( It always seems to be the signs as you go from a higher limit to a lower limit that are hard to see!
i once got pix'd by a mobile camera in the back of a station wagon. i saw the flash and pulled over, ready to read the riot act to the guy. then thot, no, i'll wait til i get the notice in the mail. then i asked the police for the pix taken that day. with pix in hand i checked the exact spot of the car.
i was coming out of a street with a full stop sign, at the top of a hill (both directions).
to my left the traffic comes up a hill and around to the right(they have a sign showing the street as a blind entrance, to take care). folks are reknown for zooming up the hill only to find they can't slow quick enough as they descend the hill on the other side. the police park there on purpose(great for revenue gathering) to flash the speeding cars when they dont slow down, oops too late. so for me to get enough speed to enter (turning right) and avoid the idiots who come whooping over the top of the hill is no mean feat. seems my speed too was just 2 mph over the limit when they flashed me.
i wrote explaining all this to the police (which they can verify easily with the flashman). i explained the difficulty of getting into the flow of traffic, up to speed quick enough and yet avoid getting run up the bum by the idiots their guy was there to catch in the first place. hmmmmm, that is kind of a convoluted explanation, sorry, hard to splain even if ya know the streets. i think as i took the time to write and explain, asking them to rethink the infringement (they might have verify'd or not) that they decided to 'let me off this time' but dont do it again. i will turn left next time i find myself in that street. its just too stupid really. i did get off the $120 fine tho. so all was good in the end, well for me anyhow.
signs that are hidden can cause traffic accidents. their prime purpose should be to avoid accidents. i'd th> Taria wrote:
All of the roads here in the Swamp are roundabouts - and you can't get there from here. Then there's the wildlife and the bridges that Katrina took out. Polly
"Elly D" Well Done Jo!!! Not easy driving around those roads, I know from experience
