OT - sewn booties

As you all know I have been collecting patterns to make things for my new expected grandbaby due in October. I have found many things, but no booties, sewn and NOT knitted. I was thinking if all else fails I will buy a pair and take them apart to make a pattern.

However, first of all I am asking you folks. I know you are a wealth of info, and you can find things that I can't.

Thanks!

OTOH I don't think busy mamas bother much with booties anymore - unless you're doing a photo-op. If they're covering those incredible wee little toes, for the most part they use footed pajamas or tiny socks. You may want to spend some time at your library going through back issues of Sew Beautiful and also Creative Needle. They often do precious things to baby socks by adding lace, fuzzy bees or stripes in team colors. The favorite baby gift I've made was the puddle pads done for our grandniece. They looked basically like a pillow sham except their innards was a rectangle of rubber backed flannel instead of a pillow. The puddle pad made a great changing spot, landing spot on a sofa or bed and defended the lap of many a target. Polly

I've decided that if I ever need to do an internet search, I'm going to google jeanne/nzlstar instead of google. You are the best internet searcher out there Jeanne!

Best thing I got was a ring sling, DS loved it and because he was a big baby he grew out of the baby bjorn type of sling really fast. With the ring sling I could wear him on my hip so my back wasn't so bad. There is a pattern on the allcrafts site.

I've given small portable changing pads to new moms and they love them because they don't have to lay the baby on an icky surface to change diapers while out doing errands.

You're right about the bootie issue, only socks around here too. I do wonder if that is because there are little or no booties in stores nowadays, just socks and shoes. Debra in VA See my quilts at

I didn't use booties with my boys for 2 reasons, even though I did receive a couple of pairs as gifts that were a part of a set. They were not very cute, and they never stayed on their feet. I didn't feel like constantly putting them back on after they fell off. If I had some of those cute little things that Jeanne was finding, they would have worn them as long as they stayed on their feet reasonably well. Even if they didn't I'm sure there would have been occasions where I would have thought that they looked cute enough on them to bother putting them back on.
