OT Shoulder Injury - Long

I've been suffering with an injured left shoulder for a couple months now. I finally gave in and went to my family physican about a month ago. I got the usual meds and told to put it in a sling for a week or so. I did that. Took the meds as directed and the arm started working a little but the pain was still there. I thought I had pulled something and it would heal in a week or two. WRONG!!

I've been very frustrated because I can't sew for more than 15 minutes a day. W-e-l-l-l-l went to the doctor this morning.

I must tell you my family doctor is a first cousin to Gerald McRaney the actor. He is a natural blond and has the prettiest blue eyes.

He gently too my left hand, stretched my arm out and proceeded to make me pee my pants by moving and lifting my arm. He said scar tissue was building up in my shoulder and he had to rip it loose or my shoulder would "freeze" in the present position and I would lose use of it. Oh the pain. He did it again. Got more meds.

Funny thing happened the arm was less painful. Was sitting in a Bingo game tonight and reached for an ink pen and felt a pop. The scar tissue that was giving me the most problem finally broke loose. My arm is working, no pain.

I think I can finish my DWR now. Its a Christmas present. I am doing the Happy Dance tonight.

Soooooo happy for you, Kate. We'll go wake up the gators and do a Happy Dance in the Swamp. Normally they don't take kindly to being roused but this is worth the risk. How wonderful. Polly

Owie!!! Poor Kate. I've had "frozen shoulder" a few times. I go to my dear physical therapist- he's one who believes PT shouldn't hurt. I get an ice pack, some kind of ultrasound thing with heat and very gentle manipulation. It takes an hour appointment 3 days a week for two weeks to fix my shoulder, but I don't have pain with the treatment. Maybe quick and painful is better than slow and taking so long? I'm a BIG chicken, so I'm going with the slow PT method! LOL

Glad your shoulder is fixed and you can sew again.... however the "fixing" came about. ;-)

Scar tissue - two words to strike fear into the hearts of stalwart men (and quilters...)

When I dislocated my shoulder 6 years ago, I had my arm strapped across my body for 3 weeks, and it was another 2 weeks before getting any PT on it - because so much scar tissue had built up I would be physically sick ecah time I did any serious PT myself - and during my visits to the physio I would threaten each time to rip off his *********** (fill in the blanks with your least favourite part of the anatomy) and beat him to death with the bloody end of it...

Stick with it and I'm sure glad that bingo is the answer - never tried it myself but mught just do so now!

Howdy!

Yee-Haw! Glad y'all figured that out!

Gerald McRaney is doing a brilliant job right now of portraying the rather evil George Hurst (father to Wm.Randolf) in the HBO series Deadwood. What a delicious series it is, too. Love that Ian McShane.

Anyway, back to the shoulder--if it gives you any more trouble, Kate, just give a shout and we'll be over to help you w/ the stash. Wouldn't want you to worry about the quilting stash w/ a shoulder injury. No, just wouldn't be happy w/ that, a worried Kate.

Take care. And th> I've been suffering with an injured left shoulder for a couple months

Come on out to california Butterfly.

No smoking allowed anywhere. Hm wait, not sure about the reservation casino bingo things, but most of California is smoke free.

I just 'left' CA and, yes, they DO allow smoking in the casinos....took DH to one for his Christmas present last year (when his Sis was visiting) and she is so allergic to smoke she had to stay in the cafeteria (no smoking there) the whole time..fortunately we didn't stay very long--spent more time talking with folks we knew than anything else:).We wrongly assumed that they would NOT allow smoking in them cause of the No Smoking CA law--guess they are above the law.

Well there is that whole Sovereign Nation thing, that drives most of the rest of us nuts.

So technically, no, they cannot be forced to follow California state Laws if they choose not too. If they didn't allow smoking in casinos they would lose a significant portion of their income.

I can understand that but if they could have the cafeteria non-smoking why can't they put a few 'cha-chings' in that area for those of us that really can NOT tolerate the smoke? Would give some of us a place to 'spend our nickels' so to speak....sure they might not make THAT much money but it would give a few of us a bit of fun....
