OT sorta: new power tools!

I just love getting new power tools :)

In the past month I've gotten three 'new to me' sewing machines including an Elna Lotus! =20

The Elna is a Elna Stella SP, and what a SWEET machine it is! I've wanted an Elna for ages, especially a lightweight Lotus model, and this one is awesome. The seller was very slow to ship, though. He apologized profusely and threw in a bunch of other 'goodies' in the parcel as a gesture of goodwill; several brand new bobbins for it, a new pair of really nice $15 German-made shears, and 5 brand new spools of Mettlier thread! So I think I will forgive him LOL. It is BEAUTIFUL and in absolutely pristine condition. He packed it well. I love the way all the little bits fit in the top compartment, and the side covers slip off to make it into more of a free-arm.

The second machine is a very filthy Singer 301 that was a $5 garage sale find. It needs a very deep cleaning inside and out but it is in fantastic shape cosmetically with wonderful 'paper clip' decals.

Lastly, my neighbors who are moving had a barn sale two weeks ago and gave me a Necchi 535 that was in the barn! In the picture you can see how filthy it is! Believe it or not it is actually VERY clean inside so I am confident it will shine up very nicely.

I've posted pictures of them in my Webshots "vintage sewing machines" album, and you're welcome to take a look.

I am traveling to Boston at the end of the month on business, and hope to take the Elna with me. I'm not one for night life LOL

What beautiful machines! I never heard of a Necchi before. With your wonderful collection, what is your choice for sewing and for quilting?

Breathing a sigh of relief here. I was afraid you had a new and improved heavy-duty chain saw and were practicing to appear in a Halloween movie. Ah. Much better now. Good for you, Irene. Your new SMs all sound so wonderful. So happy for you. Polly

Oh Irene, I just love looking at all your gorgeous machines. And drooling all over my keyboard. Forget the stash raid, I want to raid your sewing machine collection! What a fabulous collection you have. I had to look at all 63 pictures, plus the rest of your albums while I was there! I sure wish you lived near me. I have a couple of older machines I've acquired that need some work. It would be great to have someone teach me how to do those repairs. Seeing your machines all in pieces like that kind of gives me cold sweats, though! I don't think I'm quite up to that!

Yay!

I TOLD you you'd love it! I gave one of those to a beloved sewing friend, and I'm now on the look-out for one to keep for me. :) I've got the ZZ and the TSP, but badly want a Stella! :)

Gently does it! Sewing machine oil and a soft cloth are the best combination for cleaning the outside of that baby.

Severe hoovering plus damp cloth and a dab of washing-up liquid for that one! Ikk! ;)

Nothing to laugh at there! I frequently take a Lotus or the FW away for weekends and on holiday! I even pack up a machine and some of the customer stuff and play catch-up while the lads are walking the hills.

Congratulations, Irene! :) Have fun with your new "power tools".

Hmm...seems to me it would depend on what you call "night life".
