Thank goodness everybody's safe and sound. What a scare you folks in the East must have had.

duck and cover? usually I just dash to get the cars out of the garage when we have a good sized quake. Hey, the firemen do that why shouldn't we? Glad you are all ok. It is unnerving though. Taria

I have some other friends in the area (a couple of neigbourhoods over) - they reported about 10 sec of shaking, but nothing happened (nothing knocked over on shelves eg.).

Will try to get hold of Pat.

We didn't notice a thing downstairs, but DD and kiri were upstairs and they said there was a great shaking and a rattling. They came scooting downstairs all a flutter. We wondered if somebody had drugged their cocoa until we heard there was a quake.

That would be good, Hanne. Apart from hoping she' OK from the 'quake, I really miss her being here. . In message , Hanne in DK writes

Talked to my friend in the same town as Pat....they had quite a shake, but no damage or injuries. However, they're still in the midst of smoke from fires in the Great Dismal Swamp in NC, and they now have Irene heading in their direction. I suggested that my friends there move to PA!!!

Haven't heard from her either. Did a quick search through the posts I have available to me and I don't see any for this year. Am I searching on the wrong thing?

We're all OK here. Just a few papers & books fell, and those were precariously stacked anyway. And we later noticed a new crack in the front step. I did a walk-around inspection after that and found nothing else.

I spent most of the quake standing in the kitchen doorway holding

36+lbs of clingy boy (who had been just about to go down for his nap) while calling Lisa to make sure we were all okay and we all knew it.

Found out later they evacuated an area downtown after gas was found leaking into the sewer system, until it was fixed. (What a day that would have been for some dumb kid to decide to flush a cherry bomb.)

Only felt one aftershock, a 4.5 last night. We started to get up to get the boy but it faded out then. Apparently there have been several aftershocks I never even felt.

We're in Fredericksburg, by the way.

No damage here - but we did have shaking. At first I thought it was the dogs moving the office chair then I thought it was the washer on it's final cycle. Found out it was neither. Was sewing w/14 y.o, friend's daughter and didn't want to scare her when both parents checked in. Dogs and she were napping and woke up to things vibrating but that is as far as it go. Just prepping for Irenene now. Upgraded from a hurricane watch to hurricane warning. Haven't seen particulars yet. Head to the grocery store today???????

Howdy!

From Pat Winters via FB: "Earthquake was a moving experience! It was a quick and harmless shuffle in my town. The hurricane is in full force. Good news about that is that it put out the huge fire in the Great Dismal Swamp that had been spreading bad air all over the area for weeks. Thanks for asking ... gotta go."

Back to quilting in the sizzle that is n.Tx....
