OT:Taking a Break

I am going to take a break for a bit from active involvement in posting. I thought I should let you know so that you didn't think I dropped off the face of the earth. I am typing this by hunt and peck system as I managed to injure my left hand, (don't ask), and it is impossible to type, sew, or do any damn thing, with any degree of ease. I think I might be able to still do some testing of items for their temperature, but then again, maybe not. I will still monitor the group and might be able to become more active with you from time to time again in the near future, but for now it is too much of a hassle. Boy, you don't realize what a challenge it it to have a bandage on one hand and then approach a task that you would normally sail through. Have a nice holiday and keep up the good work, that we all aspire to. I think I will now go take my own temperature now, possibly with a rectal thermometer, or not.

Best,

John

Oh My!!! John ... what did you do?

Here's to a speedy recovery! I'm sure you'll be going nuts being out of commission for a bit! So maybe you can take this time to organize and plan all your upcoming projects when your hand(s) are ready to go back to work.

Take care!!

So very sorry, John. Ouch. We send profound and sincere sympathy to your wife. If you are not able to quilt or woodwork, she just may have to leave town until you are healed. Please do not look upon this as an opportunity to supervise her. Polly

This was a pretty good cut that involved some stitches and finger splints to the middle and index finger of the left hand. That renders it useless for anything other than making the peace sign. So it will be a few weeks before I am anywhere up to my normal (?) self. Sorry if I created any undue panic. It is just such a hassle to type anything with one hand that I wanted to keep it to a minimum. This will give me a chance to work on my Calligraphy, as the right hand is fine, and I am right-handed. Hope that allays all of your concern. Waving goodbye for now, with my left hand, and saying, visualize whirled peas!

John, I'm sorry to hear that you're injured -- be careful with that rectal thermometer, as they can be deadly weapons, too. ;) Hope you're feeling better soon!

Take it easy, John. I know that won't be easy for you to take anything "easy" or slowly. Sending positive healing thoughts! We'll see you later (meanwhile you can still go into lurk mode.) We'll miss you! P.S. appreciate you efforts for whirled peas, especially at Christmas!

Sorry! Hope it heals soon. I tore a tendon on my right pinkie once, and it was the most ghastly nuisance. Made me appreciate good working hands, which I once took for granted. Got me acquainted with all sorts of complete strangers, all of whom thought they had once had the exact same injury! Who knew! Look after your pinkies! Roberta in D

That leaves us all wondering if you have sewed your hand while quilting, nailed it during woodworking, or seared it while trying to use a thermometer on an iron.

There is a gizmo that looks like a ray gun that measures the temp. of unusual objects. You local laundromat's repair man might have one. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Yow! Sounds like a nasty sort of accident. I wasn't thinking of anything that bad. Now I feel bad for having teased you. Heal fast. Debra in VA See my quilts at

In that case John it is just as well it is your left hand and not your right, then youwouldn't even be able to do Calligraphy.

John, the only thing I can think to say is "Owwwwwwwwwwwwwie". My husband suffered a similar sounding injury some years ago. I should have known when he came into the kitchen and said "I need something skinny, long and sharp". I should have told him to reconsider the whole t hing, but instead I gave him a metal skewer. And a ride to the emergency room 15 minutes later, blood going everywhere, 6'4" 200-lb husband near passing out. Lots of stitches from thumb inner knuckle up to pointer finger nail tip. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwie.

So, John, I feel your wife's pain.

Glad you're into calligraphy. It's a gentle sport with no sharp implements.
