OT travel question

Any travel agents here? Seasoned travelers? Here's the situation. DD is planning a return trip to Scotland next June. She thinks she should be making reservations and purchasing her ticket soon. I think she would find better prices nearer to her departure date. Any ideas? This would be from Chicago to Edinburgh. KJ

That is my/her next move. It was easier just to read her email, read the newsgroup and post the question immediately. However, I did mark it OT! KJ

Yes, it's too soon. About February would give you the best deal.

rec.travel.air and rec.travel.europe are better places to ask this.

Yes but the other side of the coin is.....prices could go higher, seats (cheaper ones) could be sold out or you could be restricted to certain dates. There are all sorts of reasons pro and con. Alas I am one of those that thinks if it is booked and paid for and triple confirmed it is one less thing for me to worry about. And I've often come across some major bargains by booking well in advance (take next year's cruise for instance.......). JMNSHO

That's what she's thinking...but I wouldn't consider her current price quotes any kind of a bargain....it's over $300 more than we paid for tickets a year ago. I doubt they would get worse. I did write her back and told her to find a travel agent and do some research on ticket fluctuations. I really don't think she'll have to pay this price. KJ

Isn't there some sort of site that predicts fare prices, to help with this very situation? Sure I read this somewhere recently, but don't ask me to remember the name. Roberta in D

Thanks Roberta. I have it bookmarked. Unfortunately it only works for US cities right now according to the home page. Interesting site though. KJ
