OT: We might be crazy...

But a girlfriend and I are taking our three kids and driving from Maryland to Indiana! We are going to leave about mid-week next week and stay with my mom in Indiana for a couple of weeks....

Two women, three kids aged 10 mos, 2 years and 3 years...two weeks in a minivan....

Yep, we might be crazy!

Dannielle (DH is staying home and he'd probably hand over the stash if it weren't for the fear of retribution when I return!)

On the dark side, yes, you're crazy. On the bright side, you have an entire minivan! My parents used to take us 3 kids on 2-week "vacations" in a regular car. Probably because it felt so good when it was over. Roberta in D

I was hunting (without a license or weapon) through the front closet and came across a pack of pictures from a vacation trip we made when the children were very small. It was a wonderful adventure even with the scary parts and blown fuses (the car's and ours.) What's wrong with being crazy? I only know one person with a certificate that states that she is sane. I have my doubts. Polly

But you'll probably have fun!

2 Great Danes, 2 cats, a boat, a roof rack, and about 17 gallons of coffee for Dad). "Mom! Mary's pinching me!" "Mom! The dog's drooling on the seat!" "Mom! Make Liz keep her feet on her side of the seat!"

We used to go in the summers, since my parents were both teachers. All 6 of us. One year we had a station wagon, one year a VW van, one a Ford van (the first one with real air conditioning!!!) One year we hauled a trailer. Travel was almost coast to coast over 4-8 weeks. We stayed with family/friends or camped. Or slept in the car. I was usually in charge of packing/unpacking the stove and such for meal stops. It is hard to believe that we really did that type of thing so many times. But we did.

It seemed that we often had "theme" summers too. One year we visited a lot of different zoos. Started with the San Diego Zoo, and Sea World and such. We did that part with the foreign exchange student who lived half the school year with us. Then, after Gianna went back to Italy, we took off for the summer. Visited the Fort Worth zoo. Then as we traveled we visited the Philadelphia Zoo, one in Ohio, The National Zoo in DC and at least a couple of others. It was a fun trip.

One summer we "did" Civil War Battlefields. And so on.

Have fun, Danielle.

My mom's friend taught her to drive. Long before the days of seat belts and child seats they would throw her three kids and the four of us (all under five years old) in the back of the station wagon and go out for a lesson.

I sure didn't appreciate the depth and breadth of my mom's strength until I was much older.

You may be tired when you get back and need a vacation to rest up from the vacation, but I'm sure you will have loads of fun and make many fond memories along the way.
