Re: Quilts in Movies...

>> Here's a challenge. Tell me what is the pattern for the quilt on Agnes' bed in the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. It's a beautful quilt and I've tried copying the pattern (I have a pretty good one), but I can't figure out what it is. You see it just after the Tootie runs outside and knocks down all her St. Louis snowmen.ThanksTeresa

> >You might want to check out a book by Barbara Brackman. The Encycloepdia of Quilt Blocks-- hundreds of them. It is divided up in sections by block sizes. It is wonderful and it you have a copy of the pattern you may find it. It could be a variation of a block too. You may find it or something close to it. I hope this might helps. >Kathy

I feel exactly the same, Susan. Never mind, we keep the spirit, if not the volume of the old RCTQ. I think five might have been about right .. I tried posting something a while ago, but it didn't get through. I think I have a flaky new system!

I'm on facebook, but I much prefer the format of this group. Facebook does not seem like a good replacement. I wish this group were more active.

That is a very good point, actually. I have hardly done any P&Q at all for three years or so since my separation - there's always 'stuff' (having to do everything myself!). I keep trying to catch up, to get 'everything on the list done so that I can pick my sewing up again'. So, I haven't had anything really to post about. Also, I had a new service provider and computer, which wouldn't accept my old Usenet system. I have more or less sussed out just enough to communicate with e-mails, but newsgroup has been 'iffy'. But, my last post did appear, so perhaps all is well again - just different!

I will make an honest effort to post some more: more on topic than this one is >g<

*First question: how many of us are only reading RCTQ this way? or who regularly read posts in both ways? OK, there's Susan here, Julia, myself,I'm pretty sure Ginger does also; and I think Polly does both. If we had an idea of how many there were, we would have a better feeling of what size group we were still a part of.

I will post in the coming week about a project I am doing with my local quilting group. As usual, I haven't got time to write any more just now; but I'll make sure I don't leave it too long.

Let's all get writ>

I read the group three or four times a week. It's not as busy as the "olden days" that's for sure. I really miss it, too. I do read Facebook but rarely post anywhere. Now I'm going to break that trend and ask a question. Does anyone have a tried and true pattern for a diaper bag. I'm a great grandmother and was thinking making seasonal diaper bags for my grand and great-grand daughters, might be fun and get me out of my funk. I just finished the graduation/18th birthday quilt for my oldest grandson. Donna in Bellevue

So do I, but I do do Facebook too. I like the pictures and also the fact that the group is members only. I seldom use my 'ordinary' Facebook account - really just to see what children are up to. I have dabbled in other quilty groups like The Farmer's Wife I've recently joined, but I like ours best! I now only get real friends post on my normal account, having cleared and stopped all the posts from places like The Quilt Show and vaqrious quilt shops (I think I got them because I had pressed the 'like' button sometime)- I can go to their proper websites if I want to without them cluttering up my page!

I haven't made a great diaper bag, but I do love this pattern for a diaper clutch - perfect to go in the big bag and just take that one little thing to the bathroom with baby.

I still check in here a couple of times a week, but I am also on Facebook. I would never know what was going on with my grandchildren otherwise!

DD considers that a firmer bottom would be an improvement and also a second set of snaps to give a tighter closure when the bag is not so full.

I do both. I like Facebook better because pictures can be posted right along with the message---no need to go to a separate site. Gen

We don't seem to venture out of Suffolk nowadays - sunny Milton Keynes seems to be our big adventure of the year, and living at the seaside and in this hot weather we don't seem to do holidays anymore! Haven't been to a quilt show since Chilford was burnt down - going as far as Duxford is like venturing to the moon! Actually, since Mike hit a tree when he went to sleep at the wheel in Scotland 3 years ago I am not a good passenger! I'm supposed to be having a blitz on ufo's this year, though it doesn't seem to be a very successful one. I have finished one having been taken over by some microscopic Blackwork for the WI's entry for the County Show. I did it with a magnifying glass so that uneven stitches wouldn't show - they didn't as I got full marks! Currently I'm quilting the 'Stairway to Heaven' (the one with cats sitting on some steps all in dark blue and black) which as been waiting for about 5 years, playing with The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt using my stash of Liberty prints, and trying to get something finished before I allow myself to play with a Hungry Caterpillar quilt for Grandson Reuben and also a car play mat that I want to make a co-ordinating car carrier/garage for. He needs to be a bit older for it, but I need to start early! Gardening - don't ask - it has really got on top of me the last couple of years, so now I have help and we are slowly dragging it back. Fruit and vegetable growing has been abandoned though - soil too poor, in fact it isn't soil, its sand!

I read daily but post rarely. I am one that hasn't gone to facebook and don't plan to.

I made one similar to this but instead of snaps I used velcro. On the bag it was vertical and on the flap it was horizontal. That may be another option to think about. I just used quilting cotton and left over batting so mine was a little too floopy for what I wanted.

My facebook quilt photo album is public authority, so I can put a link to a post over here and anyone can see it even if they're not on facebook.
