The kitchen we tore out in the Spring was from 1947, before refrigeration, and when only mum needed to be in the kitchen. I might be single, but I want a friend or two to be able to join me. And I wanted a real fridge (efter 8 years with only under-the-counter fridges). Total remodel! It's white with turquoise mosaic tiles and a grey marmoleum (linoleum with cork backing) floor. And the most amazing and energy efficient fridge that my money could buy :-)

Sure, at some point it will look dated, but it is white, so how bad can it be? The tiles were probably never fashion, probably never will be, but I love them, and lots of friends have commented how they really like them too. My dad hates them, 'cause he had to put them up...

Sounds lovely, Hanne. Turquoise and grey are a very modern (again) combination. I honestly think that white appliances are a great idea. Never in style so never go out LOL. Enjoy your kitchen. If you have to cook, you might as well enjoy it. Donna in Bellevue

Howdy! The "popcorn" texture product is usually made of polystyrene &/or paper. Asbestos (discontinued for home installation in 1978) should not be removed by anyone other than a certified professional who has been trained to handle this deadly substance. Not a DIY project. Asbestos is okay where it is, usually, until somebody messes with it. We used to have an RCTQer whose husband had mesothelioma; nasty stuff.

Stick w/ collecting & cutting & sewing fabric; more fun, generally safer... for most of us. ;-P

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy
