adhesive photos

I make paintings by glueing photos on hardboard covered with gesso, and then interconnect the pictures with oilpaint. Anyway, a photo store recommended 3M photomount adhesive. It works for a while, but then the edges come loose. So, what is the right adhesive to use? Alternatively I could treat the oilpainting and pictures with a varnish. Maybe that holds better. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Willem

Xyron has a extra strong permanent adhesive cartridge that is suppose to hold very well, it's not acid free though. I'm not sure what sizes it comes in.

Am trying to get some family to work on a scrapbook while we're on vacation. What kind of adhesive can we use that doesn't require special equipment?

There are photo tabs. There is a dispenser system called Herma Fix that uses tabs or there is dots in that line.

put a layer of modge podge over the gesso where you want the picture to stick... then a light layer over the entire picture when your done painting and it will seal it and prevent this from happening.

I didn't realize that Xyron wasn't acid free......is it just the permanent adhesive or does the repostionable adhesive have acid as well?

It's just the cartridge I mentioned here that is not acid free. The regular permanent and repositionable one are. The Hi-Tack (that's the super sticky one) is too sticky for scrapbooking any way as it sticks tight (according to the site I was it on), more than the regular.
