My Altered Altoid's Tin is Done

Hi Guys,

I always wanted to challenge myself in Scrapbooking but never thought altering an item would be so fun and CHALLENGING.

In cleaning the house I found an empty altoid's tin. I had my DH wash it when he was doing the dishes. He did have the look of "I'm not gonna ask."

So for my first ever altered task here's the link:

I quilled the top part of the tin and used "silk" flowers for the inside. The edge is navy blue cardstock and I used my crimper to crimp the paper.

Feedback is appreciated.

Hugs, Kate

Wow Kate....I sure love it!!!! Very pretty result! One question though....What is an altoids tin? Would any tin do? I must go off and try the quilling again....*goes of mumbling...where did I put that quilling paper*

HI.

Altoids' is a round tin of breath mints marketed here in the USA (I thought it was a UK items).

I'm sure a two piece tin would work fine. By the way, I don't have quilling paper. I make my own by cutting paper to the desired width and length.

I look forward to seeing your creation.

The crimped paper really adds a nice touch.

Great job...i used a old long tin and made a album of it to my sister..it turned out so cute and very different.. My grandson got a watch from Burger King and it came in a tin can..so i asked him for the can and i made a accordian style book out of it and now i make tin albums all the time...

Hi Kate,

Just run a search on Altoids since you said you thought they were from UK. Apparently they are made in the UK but not sold here...wonder why?

I figured you could make your own quilling paper but I thought it may be easier to use some I have already. I don't have a quilling tool either, so I will need to improvise.....any suggestion?

Marilyn Posting via Google as my newserver has gone into hibernation or something more sinister....LOL

HI Marilyn,

You could start the curl of the quill by using needle nosed plyers or maybe the shank of a pen and then just roll it up your finger holding the tension as you go.

Hope that helps, Kate

PS, Altoids may be made in the UK for export only or sold under another name in the UK.

Thanks for the tip Kate...I will try that tomorrow, as bedtime is fast approaching...LOL I need my beauty sleep as DD and 2 grandchildren are coming tomorrow morning. They have a day off school for teacher training. No doubt they will want to invade my craftroom for drawing materials.....LOL

I am also wondering if they Altoids thing is English.....although we are all one country so to speak, there are national and regional differences that exist. I see it is the Kraft group that seem to make them so I suspect they may be available in some areas but I haven't seen them in Scotland. I am sure there will be some similar product that comes in a tin I could play around with.

Um Dave. I have a very simple answer to your question "Where do you find the time?"

WE MAKE IT.

Actually I quill while watching TV as well as crop pictures etc. It's called MULTI-TASKING sweetheart.

LOL...never would have though of buying something like this online. Glad to hear that you at least liked some of the flavours you bought.

I also like the sound of the mini scrap album in the decorated tin. Must file that idea away for sometime in the future. Thanks Cleo.
