Stablizing Chalked Images

Hi

What is the cheapest way I can stablize chalked images. I made a beautiful chalked landscape and when I went to move it accidently swiped under a hanging towel which ruined the picture.

I am on a stricter than usual budget so the product must be under $5.

any ideas?

Good question Kate. I'm not certain but I believe there is a spray that you can get. Let me google it and see what I find. I'll let you know.

Not sure of the price or if this would really work for what you want. They say its ment for watercolor pencils so I don't see why it wouldn't work for chalk.

Try Hairspray. Our art teachers used to spray hairspray on our work to make sure it held. Not a lot and spray from about a foot or two away so your chalk doesn't get "wet" and sometimes it doesn't work if you go chalk heavy...like a lot of thick chalk lines. There are also some sprays you can buy at art stores but I can't remember what it is called. You could ask any store clerk I would assume.

When I was taking art classes I was warned to not use hairspray. I was told it would yellow over time. For a temporary project like a card this might be fine, but for something you want to keep, I'd suggest an actual art fixative spray.

I don't think a can of fixative is very expensive... check your local art store.
