OT: moving to TN!

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that our house in Knoxville closed last week and we're making the big move. It will be so nice to have some room now--2800 sq feet. Have a HUGE laundry room that will also be my new sewing room. I can't wait!

Congratulations! That house should be large enough for lots of fabric stash storage. I am very happy for you. I don't know about the area of WV where you are now, but I do know Knoxville is a beautiful place. Emily

Cedar Bluff area...west Knoxville. It's still hilly there, but not as much as West Virginia. Very pretty area. We lived there several years ago and always wanted to move back. God's made that possible now.

Cindy, you are all around fortunate. A big sewing /laundry room and moving to Knoxville all in one big swoop. Welcome to Tennessee , you are going to love it. Hillbilly Dot in Chattanooga

Flatlander-West Tennessee Mountaineer- East Tennessee (Knoxville is just a stone's throw from the Great Smokies, Gatlinburg, Dollie Parton, and "smack-dab" in the middle of the TN Vols) Can't get any better than that!

Yes, welcome back to Tennessee!! Joan from Middle Tennessee, the land of gently rolling hills.

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes. This is something DH and I have wanted for years. And the kids (all teens) are excited too. Yes, we'll still be in the mountains but with less snow!

Going to be offline for several days...loading the truck and unpacking. Ugh...the worst part of moving.

Cindy in WV (but only for 2 more days)

When you get moved give me a call. We live just south of the Cedar Bluff area -- run a U-Pick blueberry farm. I belong to a small sewing group and would love to have you join us. 693-4221.

I'm happy for you! The kids don't mind giving up their friends? You're lucky there from what I hear.

If you don't mind, try sending some good thoughts here. DH and I would love to relocate out west...Wyoming or Nevada, but never had the chance yet.

Again, I'm so happy for you!

If you want to relocate in Nevada, make your move soon. The real estate market has gone crazy, largely due to people coming in from affluent states. We bought our house 26 years ago, and I thought we paid too much at the time -- but it was THE house for us. Now, it takes my breath away to think about what it would sell for in today's market. Of course, if we were to sell, we would have to pay to get another house and it wouldn't be THE house for us. ;-)

Thanks so much, Alice! I'll definitely give you a call. We travel down there so often that I'm quite familiar with the JoAnn Etc, Hancocks, and Best Sewing. (I bought my sewing/embroidery machine from them a few years ago). I would love to find some Mom and Pop fabric shops in the area. Maybe you know of some?

We lived in Clinton about 15 years ago. My husband graduated from a preaching school in the Karns area. We loved TN so much that we've always wanted to move back. My husband now has a secular job and preaches for smaller churches to help them out.

Well, better get back to work. It's 9 pm here and we're loading the U-Haul in the dark!

In our past moves, the real estate market always went nuts right after we left. However, recently, it seems that the market seems to go nuts right before we move. :)

We just moved to a suburb of Chicago. It takes my breath away to see what the houses here are selling for. I looked at the history, and about 10 years ago, when we bought our Indiana house, the prices were comparable to what we paid. But this area apparently boomed, while ours didn't.

Now you're telling me that's happened in Nevada too...:(

My husband is in the seafood business, so we always move somewhere there's a grocery store headquartered.

Congrats on the move! I live outside of Knox about 45 miles from Ceder Bluff area. The poor SO works right at the area of Ceder Bluff and Kingston Pike (Law Firm ) and I dont envy his commute. My brother just bought a huge house (5000 sq ft) here about 4 miles from me and paid $300,000. Not too bad because it sits on 23 acres. Now he is selling his house in Davie, Florida and the agent wont even show the house unless the buyers can quailify for at least $490,000. You could barely walk between the houses there. Glad I moved from there 10 years ago. My own house is 5000 + sq ft and sits in the middle of 40 acres and the price on it was $210,000 3 years ago.
