OT: Bragging time again

I just have to brag. Sorry if it is not what you wanted to read. My DS is doing his collegeate acting towards his BFA, as I have indicated, but also participates in debate tounements at different colleges. This past weekend was one such event in northern Georgia. He came home with the prize of overall best speaker. That is quite an accomplishment.

Did I tell you guys about him being Polonius in "Hamlet"? He had told us he was going to be the first actor. He kept it from us. He rocked, let me tell you.

Thanks for letting me bend an ear or two. I am a proud mama.

Thanks, you guys, that really means a lot to me. He and his sister are special in that they have chosen a field that has a difficult future, but they love acting and make me so proud when I see how well they do. The funniest thing is that I did not know they had these goals when they would talk about what they wanted to be. It was always a veterinarian, like grandpa, or a teacher or a brain surgeon. Oh well...I keep telling DS that he has to buy me a new house with his first million...LOL.

Susan~I know just how you feel. My son is at Emerson College as a film major. Indeed, I have allocated his first million to various things as well. He wants to screen write and direct. We just figured that if he had a clue as to what he wanted to do with his life, all power to him. Let him have a shot at it. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up!

Since we are bragging...I will mention that my 9 y/o DGD auditioned and was given a part in the Nashville Ballet performance of The Nutcracker. She will be an angel in several performances in December. Needless to say, I am very proud of her. Carol in TN

Talk about bragging...if anyone lives in the Bucks County, Pa. area, my son will be starring in "Phantom" next week. It is not "Phantom of the Opera," but the same story, with different music, written for a smaller theater. We are very excited about this! Many well-known actors and actresses performed here before they were famous. Now, if only my son is discovered next week, my worries would be over! LOL

DS told us last night that he now has the roles of Old Fezziwig and The Ghost of Christmas Future in a very popular version of A Christmas Carol that is done here locally in community theatre. We have an old theatre, the Hippodrome, that has all kinds of good theatre. Now I cannot wait to see him in action again. And this time his father might get to see him as well.

DS ALSO said that he is up for a possible acting prize for his role as Polonius. Everyone loved it so.

Hugs and thanks for all the nice comments. Also congrats to all the other mothers with children with acting in their blood.

Can I join in with the bragging please? Our DD2 is currently at a college of London University (Queen Mary for those who know London) studying drama, and as well as performing in a play in the Edinburgh Festival this summer she has recently had 2 parts (Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood) in the Uni Theatre Group Halloween show. We couldn't get to see her, but her sister and brighter and his girlfriend did, and they said she was stunning. And for that to come from a brother is quite something!! We went to Edinburgh to see her and take her out and we thought she was very good, as both of Hercules wives (although not both at the same time!!) It was well worth the trip. It's so good to see the offspring doing something they enjoy and are good at, isn't it? Love Christine

Methinks this group has spawned the next generation of actors. I seriously think that because we pay so much attention to our "craft" we are doing something quite similar, yet vastly different. I could not act my way out of a paper bag to save my soul, as someone has said. Yet two of my four, and many of your offspring are attempting to do what for me would mean knees knocking and stuttering. I am glad I started this discussion. All our children, large or small, weak or strong and whatever else they might be are our treasures and I am totally glad to hear the news of all the acting going on. Thanks to all who have shared their time at bragging with me. Makes me feel REALLY good.

Hugs, Susan
