OMG, Shelagh! Are you and your fam safe? I didn't see the earlier post...sorry for asking a redundant question if you've answered this query before...

My prayers are with you and all in your community!

Thanks Donna, we're fine for now. My earlier post on the water around here was under the threads sign up for July and I'll repeat it here... "Out where I live we've had a really bad problem with neverending rain for the last couple of weeks, which in turn means high water everywhere. We don't have a river close by, but do have a very large drainage ditch running down one side of our property. On Thursday my DH stayed home from work because the wind was blowing the water across the road and down into the ditch in front of our property. Some places it was so bad that the roads were being washed out by the force of the water. Other places the road crews actually cut the gravel roads to allow the water to flow. Many people have had water back up into their basements and worse, strand their cattle on little "islands". Thousands of acres of crops have been lost. The whole province of Manitoba is inundated with water. I've never seen anything like it."

I really feel for the people who were hit much harder than DH & I. We just have a really soggy yard and tons of mosquitoes. Our septic field was backing up too simply because it had nowhere to drain, but it's alright now.

Hi Shelagh,

I replied to your other post and I've read the newspaper article that you posted. It could have been the one from here. In a neighboring town a family have their lovely home for sale, well, I don't think people will want it now. It's like the one you mentioned an island. There was a creek in their back yard that is now around the house.

This has been the year of the crazy weather, we had the hottest, driest June since 1949 and have already had nine days over 90, last year only two all summer.

Prayers for you and your DH and everyone near you.

Hugs,

Nora

Thanks so much - Ken & I and our property are fine..... it's the other people in our province who are a lot worse off that I really feel for. Many did not have flood/disaster insurance and have lost everything. The flooding this summer is close in scope to our "Flood of the Century" in

1997.

The water was starting to recede around here, but there was a wild thunderstorm last night. We were visiting family 2 hrs away and when we got home we figure it must have been raining quite heavily, as our small ornamental pond (which we had emptied) was full AGAIN for about the fifth time! The yard has filled up with water again and I'm manning two pumps right now to try to get rid of it. We aren't in any real danger here except their are MILLIONS of mosquitoes. They are so bad it's quite unbelievable! You step out the door and there's this loud HUMMMMMMMM. I have fashioned a "mosquito hat" out of a straw hat with a wide brim and 2 lengths of cheesecloth - just to keep the little buggers away from my face. This is turning out to be a lousy summer ;>( and we were so looking forward to it. Oh well, I guess we'll be spending a lot of time on our screened porch. We still get some mosquitoes in there, but at least they aren't trying to carry us off.

Thanks for asking (rueful smile)

Oh, yuck! I hate mosquitoes! There are still several weeks left in the summer, so you may get lucky later.
