Happy Thanksgiving to all RCTYers, whether it is your celebration or not. We all have so much to be thankful for that every day should be Thanksgiving.

How right your are, Katherine. I often wonder why Australia does not have a day of thanksgiving - but I think , perhaps, Australia Day is often used in this manner even though we do not treat it as a family day as you do and the USA do - Christmas is Australia's yearly family day - although since our girls have gone to Melbourne that is not possible anymore - but the telephone bill shows that it is a special day in that regard !!!** God Bless Gwen

Hi Noreen,

Enjoy your time with the family. Drive careful.

I guess that it is a North American day. It started in the States, and then spread to Canada, although we celebrate in October rather than November. It was never observed when I was growing up, though, so it is not really a big deal to me. It is to our American cousins, though, so I wish them well.

Let me add my holiday wishes to Noreen and Don's. I couldn't say it any better.

Maybe I'll see you on the road, Noreen. LOL

We always celebrated Thanksgiving Day in our house! I remember not only my oldest sister with her family, my older sister and older brother... but also an aunt & uncle and sometimes cousins being there. My parents would make the HUGE turkey feast, and Aunt Rose would bring along her famous (to the family) cherry tarts with whipped cream topping. Uncle Vic and my older sister Carol got into a contest to see which of them could eat more... my sister (even though she is skinny) won it by eating two heaping platefuls of turkey dinner, and then topped it off with a slice of pumpkin pie and two of Aunt Rose's cherry tarts! LOL

Personally, I'm glad that Canada celebrates Thanksgiving in October, because I like to have turkey for both celebrations... and I don't think I could look at a big turkey dinner again only one month after having the last one. ;o)

We will be having our Santa Claus Parade this Saturday... it goes by our house at about 7:00 - 7:45 PM. Unfortunately I may be watching it alone this year! :o/ Matthew was hired for the part-time job at Zellers yesterday... he has three days (starting today) of paid training, but he may be asked to work on Saturday too. Yes, I am happy that he has this part-time job (which is likely only until Christmas is over), and that he also was re-hired to the old job at the call centre... but I just feel a bit sad that he missed Halloween with me, and now might not be here to watch the Santa Claus parade with me either. He's pretty sure that the call centre will be closed on Christmas, so at least he'll be home with me that day!

- Yes, I know that some people don't have their loved ones home with them on the holidays, and I *am* happy that he will be with me on Christmas... but this will be our first time of not seeing the parade together.

Maybe you will get caught up now!

It will take some time to catch up, since we got two months behind while waiting for Matthew's Unemployment benefits to start up, but yes... Matthew working two jobs will certainly help us to catch up more than if he didn't have work at all... or even if he only got the one job. That is definitely a plus to it all.

Thankfully the mortgage company (not the bank) are understanding and hold back a couple of payments for us when we absolutely need them to. If it were through the bank, the money would be withdrawn whether it was there or not! Only down side to the mortgage company is the extremely high interest rate.

And if it wasn't for my mother in law coming to stay with us for a month, I would be alone on Christmas day and Jan. the 1rst. Hubby will be working, cooking nice meals for other people :-)

Aww, that's too bad that your husband has to work on those days! :o/ It is good though that you won't be alone!

Katherine you mentioning that Canada has thanksgiving in October remind me when we had three thanksgiving celebrations.

The wonderful couple from whom we rented our unit in Tofino would ask us to join them and then we would leave for home in November and one year our friends in Seattle wanted us to join them ( as we had done before) and our Portland friends wanted us to join them too. So we ended up having an early lunch at Seattle and dinner at Portland - then we did not need to eat for a week !!! God Bless Gwen
