OT: Gals in the UK

Hi Everyone,

I pray that everyone in the UK was not near the explosions outside of London today.

Hugs,

Nora

We're probably a bit more than 50 miles away and I was truly asleep when it all went up, so didn't hear the explosions, since they're saying the were heard in Holland 100 miles away from the oil depot. We've had some suspiciously black and oily looking skies floating over and a distinct smell of burning in the air. It looks and sounds very dramatic, and just a blessing it didn't happen in the week when there would have been hundreds of casualties. Thanks for you concern

Love & higs Christine

I live about 100 miles away. The pictures on TV look horrendous. Shirley

Hi everybody, I'm about 28 miles from Hemel Hempstead. It happened at 6am, my family were on the phone to check if we were all right before I was even awake! They live up in the Midlands.

The sky has been murky today but other than that we are fine. I have old friends in the Hemel area and will have to look up their email addresses. Happily there have been no fatalities and the majority of the injuries were minor, two people are in hospital but the rest have been able to go home.

My prayers are with the two who are seriously injured and with the firefighters and police, as bringing this blaze under control will be a difficult task.

Crikey! I hadn't seen any news today until I saw your post. There's been an explosion/fire at a large oil depot near London.

A friend of mine is an oil-delivery driver: I've a feeling that he might work from that depot. I'll have to check he isn't affected.

We're about 40 miles away, but our skies have been clear and smoke free. However looking at the picture on the bbc website, we're out of line for the smoke - it will affect loads of people going to work from here though.

Hi Ladies,

I'm happy to hear that everyone is all right. I've seen the news tonight and that thick black cloud floating overhead and away from the fire is something I wouldn't want to be outside and have to breathe. Take care all of you.

Hugs,

Nora

We don't live that far from the depot - about 30 miles NW.

Yet we are so lucky here: the wind is blowing the smoke in the opposite direction. We have clear blue skies, no black clouds: I even went to a nearby high viewpoint, and I could see hills about 15 miles away. My visibility is excellant: the pictures on the news could be the other side of the world.

Whereas we're quite a bit farther away from the fire and have had intermittent dark skies that looked like an impending storm, and occasional whiffs of something burning. It's all quite high up though so no real problem, although I did have a query from a patient asking if we were supplying masks for people with chest problems. Love & higs (from where it got dark even earlier than usual today) Christine

We're about 50-60 miles NE of Hemel here so have seen no effects so far. Apparently the wind is supposed to swing round more to the north overnight so we could start seeing smoke.

I was in Milton Keynes today, and on the drive over, everything was really clear.

OTOH, DH was near the M25/M40 junction, and his car is covered in dust.
