OT: how about a 'comfort food' thread?

Reading through the Special foods for special occasions thread, I wondered about out favourite 'comfort foods' and the occasions we crave them? Hugs, Noreen

Chocolate - any excuse will do! Rice pudding with nutmeg - on cold winter afternoons, after a long walk in the snow Mashed potatoes and gravy - when I come in after a long day at work and it's cold and damp and drizzly Vanilla Ice cream - all summer long Panacotta - when it's not hot enough for ice cream! :-) Blueberries were my favourite comfort food when I was giving up smoking - so I had some every day for the first few weeks!

Feeling hungry now!

Potato chips when I'm in a funk Hot cocoa when I'm feeling hungry, but my stomach is protesting the idea of breakfast food, or when I'm cold, or when I'm grumpy. Beware when I'm out of cocoa, lol. Mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes are some of the most perfect foods in the universe. Indian food when I'm feeling empty inside, or feel like something is missing. My homemade strawberry jam on a bagel with cream cheese when I'm craving something sweet. Hot honey, lemon, ginger water when I have an upset tummy or a sore throat. Candied ginger for the same reasons. Tea of nearly any kind, except Liptons (blech!) as a pick me up, or to warm me up especially at the office. Herbal only after dinner and before bed. At family gatherings, I seem to gorge myself on celery- most likely as a stress reliever. Sarah

Fettuchini Alfredo or Capellini Primavera with Italian bread and butter...oh My goodness!! This is a great comfort food for me and my DD.

Cheesecake or sweets...always! Actually I made my first cheesecake for Thanksgiving this year and it was a hit. It is the creamy Philly cheesecake recipe using Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese. Easy and very good. Recipe on the kraft website.

Diet coke - I can't help it but I am adicted to this.

And...Gotta have the tea in the morning, at least 2 cups no matter what!

Porridge (oatmeal), Cream of Wheat, Custard, Campbell's Alphabet Soup ... they all are comfort foods from my youth, and still make me feel good.

Chocolate ice-cream with canned peaches on top.

M&M Peanuts.

Monkey's Puzzle (secret family recipe that my maternal grandmother made up... not what you think... my grandmother was busy making it and my Mom asked what it was, my grandmother replied "Oh, Monkey's Puzzle!" more to just answer the question so she could get back to what she was doing)... it's a casserole, but a secret recipe. ;o)

Hot Chocolate with a candy cane broken up in it, and tiny marshmallows on top.

A nice cup of tea... in fact I'm going to make one right now! ;o)

I could make a list now, and then later I'll remember 10 more things!

I just LOVE this when I am stressed out. This is kind of gross, but a combination of: Campbell's Cream of Asparagus soup made with milk

1 can of garbanzo beans 2 hot dogs cut up in little pieces and fried before adding to soup big glob of real butter ground black pepper

Also: Mexican hot chocolate Tapioca pudding chocolate bars filled with various fruit fillings pistacio nuts Hagen Dazs Dulce de Leche ice cream in summer

Chai with milk & honey in the morning (one teapotful) Baileys Irish Cream Liquoir (pricey... an infrequent treat) Wine at night

Count me in for this one too, except I like the eggs fried and pretty solid, with a touch of tomato ketchup!
