OT: my Mom (GeeGee) from Noreen #2 (re-post)

OMG, when it rains, it POURS. My mom fell Monday night, and broke her hip. It happened around 10pm, she got up to turn her thermostat down, and turned away to go back to bed, and down she went. You'd have to *know* my mother... the first thing out of her mouth was "sonovaBITCH". She laid there a few minutes, knew she was not going to get up, and started hollering for help. (there are call buttons in the bedroom and bathroom, but NOT in the hallway in her apartment). The maintainence man heard her, entered her apt, called 911 and stayed with her till the ambulance arrived. In the meantime, another neighbor heard the ruckus and went downstairs to let the EMT's in the building. My cousin, Lorraine, who is very close to my mom, more like sisters than neice and aunt (they're only 10 years apart) who has medical P.O.A. wasn't called till 6am at mom's insistance that none of us be bothered till morning. Lorraine called my sister, Nancy by 6:30 am, and Nancy called ME by 7am. Mom had surgery by 3pm. I feel that she got dizzy due to the liquid diet she was placed on for the continuing tests re: her cancer. GOOD news: they replaced the ball and the head, the actual pelvis was NOT shattered or broken. More GOOD news, the fall caused the break, NOT the break caused the fall (with osteoporosis running in the family, this is extremely good news for my sister and I!) She has walked already this morning, and will be at St. Anthony's Hospital another five to eight days. DURING this time, they are re-running ALL her cancer testing, as one of her doctors feels that the previous tests were not as conclusive as he would feel comfortable with, so it's like getting a second opinion. After the hospital, she will go to a rehab center for I-don't-know-how-long. Mom LOVES to get cards, so email ME at n o r e e n DOT j AT g m a i l DOT c o m for it, I don't want to place her full name here on the NG. That's it for now. Dennis was planning on visiting her, as he lives nearby, and she had visited him when he was hospitalized. Love, Noreen
