OT: sock silly-ness!

Did you ever notice how MANY sock patterns, whether free or paid, seem to ALL end in... make a second sock to match, or don't forget to make a second sock ???? LOL! Wondering now ... cuz I've never SEEN it, but why isn't there the same disclaimer on slippers and mittens? LOL Noreen (who fully expects comments from Carey and Katherine, tongue in cheek, grin!)

Slippers yes, but mittens with patterns do have a left and a right, so you don't want to make the second one to match exactly.

Maybe they've heard of "Second Sock syndrome."

Sometimes a pattern says this for sleeves as well...lol Like you're gonna sew it up minus a sleeve...cheers...Cher Intriqued by your little saying after you name Noreen, I think the answer is ....jealousy.... Because some people are so ignorant to the fact that they are so jealous of others, and can never be happy with a jealous character trait.

prostheses today are made to match the opposite foot, so two socks are still used. However, because the prosthesis doesn't sweat, the sock doesn't need to be changed very often. Douglas Bader, the famous/infamous British WW2 RAF pilot had two prostheses... and discovered one day that the sock on at least one of his prostheses had I think the entire sole worn out of it, it had been on his prosthetic foot so long! lol

Very true, Mirjam... and honestly, what good does it do to be jealous of anyone else? The main person it hurts is yourself, because you come off looking bad in other people's eyes and minds, and you are really no further ahead in life for being jealous.

Have to admit though, when I was very young I was jealous of my cousin... thinking she was prettier, or got more attention... but that was almost like sibling rivalry because we were like sisters who only saw each other two weeks out of a year. As we grew older though, I came to realize that she really wasn't *prettier* than me (she was thinner, which bothered me because of constantly being teased by schoolmates about my weight), and I also came to realize that the reason she got more attention from my Dad was because her own father had died when she was a little girl, so my Dad was basically compensating for that and she was looking at him as a father-figure.

Once in a while now I will goof around and say "I'm SO jealous!" when someone I know can do something (whether it be craft-related, cooking-related, or whatever), but I am just joking... and I am certainly never jealous when someone else *has* something that I don't have. I figure they must deserve it, earned it, or were lucky enough to either win it or have someone give it to them.... no need for jealousy about it. I'm happy and satisfied with what I have in my life... sometimes it would be very nice to have a bit more money to be able to pay the bills, but that is just a survival instinct kicking in, I think... wanting to be able to pay the bills so what we do have isn't taken away.

Peace! Gemini

Never had this affliction, but know several who have...I have a policy, There isn't anyone on this earth who has anything I am desperate to have, if someone else has it, then I don't want it anymore. lol
