I hope you ducked fast -- looks like another bad storm in Tennessee. This one sounds like it came a bit closer.
A LOT closer, and I'm really worried about Carol. Galatin, Hendersonville, got it REALLY bad, and also, McMinnville, 18 miles south of us got it too, two deaths reported. We are FINE! Noreen

Thanks for checking in so fast, I heard about the storms and immediately thought of you. I also hope we hear from Carol soon.
I just had a quick question for you, do you have a storm shelter? I'm thinking about building one as an addition behind my trailer by digging a hole and placing some 8, 9 or 10 foot diameter metal culvert by 10-15 feet long in. You add plywood for the floor which you can store emergency supplies under, a vent shaft for air, a strong door on the exposed end, and stairs to the surface, and you've got a quick and relatively inexpensive storm shelter (I hear as little as $2,000) that can double as a root cellar if you've got a garden. You'd want to rent a Bobcat backhoe to dig the hole, and get some gravel hauled in for drainage around the shelter, but you could still get the shelter in really fast going that route.
They make fiberglass ones you only have to dig a hole for, and steel ones you can add inside, but they cost more when you tack on delivery and installation, about $2,000-$5,000.
The above ground concrete ones cost even more, $5,000-$10,000 and our problem is where would we put it?
Since we have a trailer now, I worry more about the storms than I used to, and we are also very short on storage space like someone else mentioned. We are remodeling it to make it more efficient, next up is opening up a section of closet we can't get to easily now and turning that into a linen closet, but an extra 100-200 SF of room in a storm shelter we could put right outside the back door would also help with the sad lack of closet space.
